Exclamation David Gilmour - On An Island!

source: www.brain-damage.co.uk

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour has more than one reason to celebrate on his 60th birthday next year - March 6th 2006 sees the long-awaited release of his new solo album "On An Island".

Released on EMI Records, the album is the first solo release from David since 1984's "About Face". Following the release of "On An Island", David will embark on a European and American tour during the months of March, April and May 2006 - and we should have details of these dates soon.

"On An Island" is produced by David, along with Chris Thomas and Phil Manzanera. Orchestrations are by the renowned composer Zbigniew Preisner and were recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London.

The title track teams Gilmour with David Crosby and Graham Nash - three of the greatest voices in contemporary music. Richard Wright, Robert Wyatt, Jools Holland, and Guy Pratt also feature on the album.

Thank you Arash - this will be a "must have" for me. I'll be watching for a tour here in the US too. I was afraid he wasn't going to do any more after Live 8.
And Pulse will be delayed one again

i'm not really a fan of david's solo stuff, but im sure gonna get this one. i got a feeling it's gonna be a great album. by the way, did you get Roger's latest album "Ca Ira"? i've tried to find it, no success yet though.

Dave Gilmour is a quality musician, no doubt about that. I'll have to check this out.

oh, and I thought he is moving on an island! I already saw him hanging around with Robinson Crusoe and Friday...hahah...

I never really liked Pink Floyd or Gilmour. I think he is a very overrated guitar-player for he has never played anything. Pretty much like Slash. But I like his voice and if this record is not in PF style than I might enjoy it.

I couldn't disagree more. I'd say Gilmour was under rated! His live work is awesome.

Ok people name me a Pink Floyd album that is best for his guitar work (and a great overall album obviously), being meaning to get one of their albums for a while now, they were awesome at Live 8.

Ok, I can't really make sense of this sentence, but in terms of good albums to start out with, I'd recommend the three classics - Darkside of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and The Wall.
