It was truly brilliant. I loved the bit when Bono says that The Edge doesn't even need him during the live show, and the Edge agrees buts says it would be boring without him. And Forty Foot Man!

How are finding the album?

Am enjoying it, only have it on while in the car. I would not be a huge fan but do love some of their songs.

interesting Bono being slow close to the troubles in NI, if you remember JBJ got slaughtered for talking about Bono being slow close to the troubles in NI

U2 debuts on charts: number 1 UK and top 5 Billboard USA.

It has just been announced that U2’s Songs of Surrender has charted at #1 on its first week of release in the UK. U2 outsold the rest of the top five combined to reach the top of the charts. This is U2’s first #1 since 2009, when No Line on the Horizon made it to #1. The album has also hit #1 in the Irish charts at home for U2.

Here’s a list of the charts provided by the Official Charts in the UK for the new album:

Official Albums Chart Top 100: #1
Official Irish Albums: #1
Official Scottish Albums: #1
Vinyl Albums Chart Top 40: #1
Albums Downloads Chart Top 100: #1
Albums Sales Chart Top 100: #1
Physical Albums Chart Top 100: #1
Vinyl Albums Top 40: #1

I honestly found most of the reinterpretations to be rather boring, especially Bono's voice doesn't work for me at all. Only good thing is that I listened to TLFR after it and enjoyed it a bit

I haven't even bothered listening it on spotify yet.
But I find it interesting that they still get a number 1, with hardly any promotion, and with a Greatest Hits reworked as TLFR.

Funny you say that, as I re-visited TLFR today too. I think they released it 20 years too early - I enjoyed it a lot more today, and if it was a new release, with Jons vocals how they are, I think we all would have been a lot more accepting of it.

With Jon's vocals how they are, not even TLFR level of singing is feasible. In 2023, he couldn't even sing the TLFR versions of IML, Wanted and most other songs.

I agree, however, that the perception has to do with timing, in 2003-04, they were still relatively young and fanbase had different expectations. That being said, it's not like U2 is heaping praise with this release, the usual 'critics' (think RS, Mojo and similar) are obviously eating it up, but the general public, judging by the facebook comments I see, is mostly quite critical, noting how boring those versions are.

It would be hilarious if Bono tried to do a 2006 Jon and replaced some of those songs on tour with these new dogshit versions.
