Wow..Bon Jovi can't sold 1 million albums anymore, even with this ticket trick. That's something.

If I remember correctly, WAN didn't reach 1 million too.

No...those 692,000 copies sold are the Global numbers.

http://www.mediatraffic.de/albums.htm

In comparison, WAN sold 613,000 copies worldwide in 7 weeks.

This album barely sold anything outside of the US, due to the fact that they barely bothered to promote it anywhere else.

Terrible numbers, even with the US though...I wonder what those numbers would be without the ticket deal? Back to my point about not being able to get accurate numbers, because you have people ending up with multiple copies and sales numbers being inflated because of this...

I'm going to say it again! This is a much bigger problem than Bon Jovi...

If 100K copies sold is enough for the #1 spot 2 weeks in a row, that's pretty pathetic for the entire music industry as a whole...

Pathetic album sales in the industry are also the reason concert tickets have skyrocketed in price.

The band need to move with the times and get with the promotion of streaming. CD sales are dead, and giving them away with concert tickets is only going to make you look desperate for sales. All the press about THINFS going back to number one has been stating about how it's only because of the ticket bundle.

Def Leppard just issued their entire catalog on streaming and download services and have been promoting it hard via their socials and they even have a great little website which unlocks more exclusive videos etc, the more that people stream. Now that's how you market something in 2018!

It would also help sales if they gave a shit about anywhere outside of the US, but ho hum...

The best UK promotion I’ve ever seen from the band was during the KTF era. Top Of The Pops, TV Shows, Award Ceremonies and endless Radio Interviews. They really did put a huge amount of effort into that album.

It also helped that Radio 1 were broadcasting live gigs (Milton Keynes Bowl) and playing new songs too.

Even MTV were dedicating whole weekends to Bon Jovi.

The promotion nowadays is laughable but sadly understandable given the fact Jon can’t sing live. How can an artist promote a new song if they can’t sing it? Playback is their only option. Also, Jon looking like Bill Clinton HAS harmed their appeal. He’s lost that rock star image. There’s no getting away from it.

If you’re a broadcaster, do you want to give air time to an ageing singer who can’t sing? Without a monster hit song, there’s nothing Bon Jovi can offer the general public anymore.

Wouldn't worry about sales too much given how ubiquitous streaming is these days. Even many diehards will not buy a copy - why would you if you are paying £10 a month for Spotify, it's all there and that's where music is nowadays. You don't need to buy an album to have the album so it's not a reflection of a drop in popularity or quality, it's just different times.

Jumping into bed with Tidal hasn't worked. They need to get in properly with Spotify- if they want a single heard, they need it on the new release playlists of the week. Same with the album, it needs to be on the new releases list to catch people browsing. At the moment, you have to go in to Bon Jovi to find the new stuff- the THNIFS re-release was just there with no fanfare at all.

Promotion is non existent outside of the states, they're not touring out of the US. They need to hope there's still a fanbase waiting for them when they do want us to buy tickets/music.
