Default Songs on the debut album

That post about Runaway got me thinking, and I was wondering if anyone knew the answers to these questions:

1) Did many of the songs, or indeed any except Runaway, come from Jon's previous sessions before the band existed? And if not, how come he decided to largely ignore the material he already had?

2) Considering Jon was reluctant to even let Richie join the band at first, how did he end up being the second lead songwriter so quickly?

Yes.

She Don't Know Me, Shot Through the Heart and Love Lies were songs that were demoed with The Wild Ones, the others were new songs.
