I have now listened to this song about five times. The reference to the woman in the red dress and reaching for the sky and all that blue sky imagery. Since this was inspired by 9/11 anyone else interpreting this as a message from beyond to a loved one. The line about the hands across the divide if you believe. Anyone else hearing this in this song? Does anyone have the actual lyrics for review?

I am sure someone can elaborate, but Jon said the song was inspired by old time movies, not 9/11.

In interviews about the album, both Jon and Richie said that the only three songs, on the album, that are 9/11 type are "Undivided" "Everyday" and "Bounce". The distance was more or less a story telling track, that opens like a movie.

I don't know who said this if it was Jon or Richie, but I remember reading an interview with one of them and he said that when they were writing the song he had that mental image of a soldier leaving home.

ummm i specifically remember during the bounce tour when they came here Jon was introducing the song and he mentioned 9/11, i forgot exactly what he said but i DO remember him refering the distance to 9/11

Lyrics dont really fit 9/11, somebody has said before that it was somthing to do with the wizard of oz????????
