MTV goes anti-war
22 January 2003
MUNICH - MTV's German operation is to air a series of anti-war comments by top artists, the channel announced Wednesday as sentiment in Germany hardens against US war plans in the Gulf.

The pop video television channel's campaign will run under the English-language slogan "War Is Not The Answer", but will be aired in Germany only. A spokesman said MTV channels in other countries were independent operations which decided their own programming.

Both artists and music fans would gain a forum, starting Thursday, to protest against the Iraq war. Noting the build-up of U.S. forces in the Gulf, the channel said, "War is just around the corner."

The "War Is Not The Answer" logo will run over appearances by stars such as Moby, Bon Jovi Red Hot Chili Peppers. Pro-war arguments would also be allowed.

MTV's German website would provide a matching discussion forum on "War or Peace" for viewers.

Director of programming Elmar Giglinger said the aim was to show viewers that "a war in Iraq affects us in Germany too".

MTV's fierce local rival, Viva, has launched a similar anti-war platform.

i just switched on MTV and saw the last few seconds of one of those adverts. it had rumsfeld in it saying how much he supported bush and how he thought bush did the right thing... but at the end there was a big banner saying War is not the Answer

MTV haven't been playing much bon jovi lately, i think the last time i saw a bj video was 3 or 4 weeks back

they don't seem to support them much these days...

You have to go to the "old people" version of MTV. VH-1 plays Misunderstood a lot.
