People: U2 frontman Bono suffered numerous serious injuries requiring two surgeries after a cycling accident in New York on Sunday.

While riding his bike through Central Park (in New York City), the lead singer attempted to avoid another rider and was involved in (what)...York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Hospital for Special Surgery said in a statement was a "high energy bicycle accident..."

Bono...underwent ...hours of surgery to treat a facial fracture in his left eye socket, three separate fractures of his left shoulder blade and a fracture of the left humerus in his upper arm, which left the bone shattered in six different places...(and) tore through the skin...Bono will need intensive and progressive therapy but a full recovery is expected.

The group posted that...they would be postponing their upcoming weeklong residency on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon...Fallon donned shades and Bono's trademark cadet cap to provide guests and viewers the next best thing, taking it upon himself to perform Desire with The Roots.

UPDATE: U2's longtime tour manager...Dennis Sheehan was found unconscious in his room at the Sunset Marquis Hotel...after the curtain went down on U2's first of 5 concerts at the Forum in Los Angeles (California)...

(P)aramedics were called to Sheehan's hotel room...for a reported cardiac arrest. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Sheehan, who was in his late 60s, has been U2's tour manager for more than 30 years. (H)e worked with rock legends like Led Zeppelin, Iggy Pop, Patti Smith and Lou Reed.
