Default Walls

I have a strange relationship with this one.

The lyrics are generic at best. The guitar is practically non existent. The drums are clearly computerized. But ever since it was released, I listen to it all the time.

I don’t think it’s a great song by any means. But I find it very enjoyable to listen to. Maybe it’s a guilty pleasure.

Is it just me ?

Cheers

Eduardo

It's a shitty political song about Trumps Wall and JBJ is going to tear it down brick by brick...

Trump wanted legal immigration and the weird Hollywood elite thought that was racist.

Yes, I know that. As I said, the lyrics are not good (I’m not talking about politics, but about the song).

However, I love the melody.

I have a similar feeling, but I'm not a big fan of this sound. What I like the most is that Jon sings the verses before the chorus with a bit more punch, I like that part.

I love the song and the energy it carries. However it was a song that as soon as I heard it I knew it would be impossible for the band to do it justice live. I tend to zone out the obvious political undertones and just focus on the melody. A bit obvious on the Imagine Dragons influence but still good. Though I think it went more like Sunrise Avenue got influenced by Imagine Dragons and then Bon Jovi got Very influenced by both Should have been a bigger song I think.

Must admit I am the same. I love Walls. It's one of my favourite newer releases and I still listen often. I enjoyed When We Were Us too.

How could I legit predict almost word-by-word what you were going to say...

You don't need to take EVERYTHING so f*cking seriously. Jon's political views aren't anyone else's business but his.

As for the song itself, it's pretty decent, but one doesn't have to be much of a music expert to notice that it sounds like a rather blatant rip-off of Whatever It Takes by Imagine Dragons:

Melodically I really enjoy it. Like what was said above, production wise it tried WAY too hard to be "off the times". Really like Everetts rolling percussion on it. I don't agree the drums are computerized but its sounds a lot like the norm for them (live drums with heavily filtered loops on top) but as far a that processed drum sound Shanks likes sometimes, this is as bad as it gets.

It's not a song I listen to all the time, but when I do I quite enjoy it. I like the message and the melody, and since I really like the first three Imagine Dragons albums I'm not bothered by the fact that it sounds so Imagine Dragons-esque 😂
