Default Jovitalk Bandstand

This is the first official Jovitalk Bandstand Competition to determine this board's favourite band that no one really knows.
_______________________________________________
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this competition is to introduce each other to new music. In the end, we're here because of a band that we all used to love. Let's discover other bands that we all enjoy but would hardly ever hear on the radio/ see on TV or live in concert.
It can be new bands, old bands, local bands, global bands - they just can't be superstars. Not YET
_______________________________________________
RULES:
1. Nominate three of your favourite bands that no one else knows.
2. The board spends the next week listening to these bands
3. Choose the best one from every list of three that was proposed.
4. The winners of the first round will be fighting each other in next rounds.
_______________________________________________
ACTION:
For the bands that you nominate, please provide what you think are their best three songs as well as a youtube link to the songs. Will make the listening/ voting process a lot easier.
_______________________________________________
NOMINATIONS:
A SPOTIFY playlist has been set up. Either look for Jovitalk Bandstand on spotify or try this link:
http://open.spotify.com/user/devilss...GleMZEKY4dEuKS
Note that bands that are not on Spotify are not included
_______________________________________________
WINNERS:
Voting will close on December, 19th and the winners of this round will be announced before pairing them up against each other.
The winners are bolded and capitalised.
_______________________________________________

So down for this. Yeah, I got 3 bands -

The Trews
-Listen to Ishmael & Maggie Poor Ol' Broken Hearted Me (live) Couldn't find a decent live version on youtube, if you prefer, look up the studio version.

Mother Mother
- Listen to:
The Stand Hayloft
Poor Young Things
- Listen to:
Blame It On The Good Times Let It Sleep

All three are Canadian, all three are exceptionally good live and all three have at least one solid studio album. I'm looking for new and interesting bands, so I'm pretty stoked to see what everyone has to offer.

That's exactly the idea. Can you provide the youtube links for the songs as well?
Max 3 songs per band please.

This sounds a great idea, what's the cut off for being well known? I guess it's all relative, I could put an artist forward that none of my friends have heard of but half the people here might know them.

Yeah - that's a good point. In my mind, Wolfmother/ Jet/ Airbourne type acts are already too big to be here. But if they are smaller, that should be fine. Does that work as a relative measure? Anyhow, I am sure we'll be calling them out if they are too big so nothing to worry about.

Okay, I'll give it a try. Please remember that a relatively popular artist in one country/continent can be completely unknown in another. Here are mine ones:

1. Alex Band - used to be a lead singer of The Calling (one the best alternative rock bands of the early 00s, however the masses perceived them as a one-hit-wonder for Wherever You Will Go. However, they were really great. Now Alex has a solo career, where he barely is having any success. However, his stuff is very melodic and catchy, don't know why he's so unpopular, maybe he's to radio-friendly? He's a Bon Jovi fan too.
Tonight - Rest Of Our Lives (live) -
2. Vintage Trouble - these folks have supported Jovi on a few dates in 2011, therefore some of you are familiar with them already. However, I first heard them a little earlier and I think they're fantastic. Maybe not for a casual Jovi fan, but still fantastic nonetheless. Two great live performances from Jools Holland show:

3. Living Colour - a quite underrated band from 80s, but still active today. For masses they're also a one hit wonder (Cult of Personality), but they have other good tracks too.
Love Rears Its Ugly Head -

Ok.... here goes lol

Firstly, Jake Bugg.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jake_Bugg

Just broke through in the UK this year and supported Noel Gallagher on quite a bit of his tour. Musical style has been compared to Bob Dylan and The Beatles

Two Fingers: Taste It: Lightning Bolt:

Secondly, Embrace.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Embrace_%28English_band%29

The band have been around for ages but haven't released any new material in 6 years, however a new album is in the pipeline and should be released early 2013. So thought I may aswell draw some more attention towards them.

Ashes: Come Back To What You Know: Natures Law All You Good Good People:
Lastly, Rudimental

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rudimental

Not the normal type of music I listen to, but when I first heard 'Feel The Love' I was instantly hooked by it, would even go as far as to say it's my favourite song of 2012. Normally hate 'dance' music, but theres something about Rudimental. A similar act that may also be worthwhile checking out is Chase & Status, been around a little longer, but are probably the act that led me to liking this lot!

Feel The Love: Not giving In: Spoons:

Theres my 3. Hope at least someone likes them and discovers some new music.

Also... great thread idea!

Excellen thread.

Sigur Ros - You probably know these guys since they've been on adverts and sports show background music for years but you mention their name and no one has a clue who they are.

Hoppipolla

Saeglopur

Milano

Explosions in the Sky

Breathtaking instrumental post rock.

Your Hand in Mine

First Breath After Coma

The Only Moment We Are Alone

Those 2 are maybe a bit left field for what your average JTer is likely to be into so I'll throw in some Longview but they're definitely worth a listen. Great chill out / reading music.

Longview

Great UK Indie band that really should have been absolutely massive.

Nowhere

Will You Wait Here?

Can't Explain

Just wondering why they have to be relatively low key bands? Someone could actually say their favourite bands are Led Zeppelin & The Rolling Stones for example. I, personally, haven't heard much by those two bands so it would still be a new experience in giving them a try.

But I may be missing the point completely!
