Not "Rough" sounding in a literal sense but just the name of a step in the recording process...

I don't know. They sound finished to me, just with some noise that's either been added or is due to someone f*cking up big time. Upon further listen, they even sound mastered, as they sound almost the same as the release, sound coherent, etc. But who knows...

Yeah what those guys said. If you listen to the "Rough" mixes released on the deluxe edition of Slang by Def Leppard a couple of years ago, you will see what I mean. Same kind of thing...

Man, those original lyrics of Bells Of Freedom ARE way better. They definitely smoothed out lotsa rough edges for the final version (e.g. the implied rape in verse 1).
