Common in Crush the singles were very obvious and my main complaint was that the rest of the album was week, not that the singles were bad.

I think singles until LH pretty much made sense. I would swap Say it isn't so for Captain Crash probably, and with hindsight, try something different instead of Everyday (Undivided is actually good candidate, not because it's a hit, but because it's heavy, driven song and you have eyes and ears of world on Jovi's new single in 2002). Okay, also Welcome to wherever you are is a dud, anything instead of that. Perhaps Novocaine?

But after HAND, I would just use 1st single as the most catchy one (usually record company chooses this), and then 2nd and 3rd "single" (really, song that's half-assed put to radio couple of times) I would use the best songs of the album, just to showcase there's still inspiration and talent. So, for me, Any Other Day on LH, Brokenpromiseland on The Circle, I'm With You on the WAN (but please, for the love of god, re-record that song properly).

Just an example, Do What You Can did nothing for the band and its legacy and popularity. But Blood in the Water, if its just played couple of times on rock radio, would do at least something. Perhaps re-ignite some old casuals or remind old fans that there's still something there.

The sign of the times is when majority of us picks several singles that the band (and record company) also picked as a single, and it bombed IRL, nowhere near the relevant charts. So it's basically given that Jovi should not promote commercial stuff after the 1st single, but best stuff from albums, and strategy since LH has been mismanaged
