Great find.
Do we know where the picture was taken?
The cover with that sepia-kind of color and the palm trees in the background always looked cool...to me it always had some kind of Cuba-feeling or something, if you know what I mean.

Now seeing it in real life colors, looking like a side street next to a store somehow takes away some of the magic

I seem to recall it's Mexico? Mitch Lafon shared it originally on twitter but I'm not sure if he took it and I can't find the link now.

The owner of La Realeņa, a grocery store at San Antonio. Baja California (the building on the left side of the cover).

Aloha !

That picture was taken by Luis D. Bareņo, you can find his name at the location on Google.

What I find a lot more interesting is considering Jon's hate for travelling why they'd travel all the way from La Paz to this small village to have that picture taken. Surely they must've been on the way to somewhere?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

Do we have any rough idea how close the photo shoot was to them starting the tour?

This is probably a bit far-fetched, but perhaps they went on a little trip down there while they were recording in LA to get a change of scenery/find some new inspiration, and while they were driving around the area they discovered this place and spontaneously decided to have the photoshoot there.

When the tour in Asia was on its way the album was just finished but the album cover hadn't been picked yet. It was when the band was somewhere in Asia when the album cover was chosen. It's also why the promo shots for This Ain't A Love Song look so different compared to the rest of the photos inside the booklet.

The reason they went down there: I heard if you go into the back room of the grocery store, there's a hidden safe containing Cadillac Man studio recordings on cassette.
