Default The Official Billy Joel Topic

A quick search of this forum showed a few disjointed Billy threads, but nothing comprehensive, so I figured I'd start one. Some good news to kick it off:

http://www.billyjoel.com/news/last-p...world-premiere

Quote:
This April, the documentary film Last Play At Shea, produced by Steve Cohen and Nigel Sinclair, in conjunction with Billy Joel’s Maritime Pictures and Spitfire Films, will receive it’s world premier at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City, featured as part of the Tribeca/ESPN Sports film Festival. The intersecting histories of a landmark stadium, a volatile baseball team, and a music legend are examined in a film that charts the ups and downs of the New York Mets and the life and career of Long Island native Billy Joel. Directed by Paul Crowder, the film is set against the backdrop of New York City, early 60s to present, and the soundtrack of Joel's final Shea concerts in 2008. Last Play At Shea, weaves interviews with players and performers and exclusive concert footage—featuring guests like Tony Bennett, Garth Brooks, John Mayer and Roger Daltrey, among others. Long time Joel friend and former band mate, Jon Small, directed the concert footage, filmed at each of Joel’s sold out Shea Stadium Shows. The shows staged on July 16 and July 18, 2008, before a combined 110,000 fans, were the last performances ever to play the historic stadium. After 45 years, two Mets’ World Series victories, and a concert that introduced the Beatles to America, the last section of Shea Stadium was torn down and replaced by CitiField. As one ardent fan eulogized, “Shea was a dump! But it was our dump!”

Sounds like a good concept for a film, and the shows were spectacular. (My review of the first night: http://drycounty.com/jovitalk/showthread.php?t=46049 )

Next year's apparently going to be a big year for Billy Joel releases though I could have lived without another GH (This would be #7)

Also, The Last Play At Shea Documentary was really entertaining, however I'd only recommend it of you're really interested in Billy Joel and/or baseball.
