Was Dave Stewart suppose to record JBJ's 3rd solo effort? ...I know how Crush came to be, but I didn't know DS did any work with JBJ after DA.
I think so however Jon gave Bruce Fairbairn 30 songs in 1999 of which he only produced one.... Real Life before he passed in May 1999.

Bruce was probably going to do Crush but maybe his passing also changed Sex Sells into Crush....

On the Box Set Jon said this one had dust on it with We Rule The Night. He doesn't remember writing it and referred to it as the "earlier stuff" he doesn't necessarily like.
He was talking about Out of Bounds, not Outlaws of Love.

That's not how things work. You don't record 30 songs and then hand them to a producer to make something of it. No one really knows how much had been finish with Bruce Fairbairn before he died, and most demo's that have been released from the Crush era have a different feeling to them compared to what Real Life sounds like.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

We'd have to go digging through the interviews to find it but I'm pretty sure Jon has said they didn't get any further than sifting through the piles of songs they brought to the table to figure out which to go after. I honestly don't believe Bruce had anything to do with it past re-vamping Real Life.

How could anyone think Outlaws of Love was from '92 anyway? It's so Bon Jovi 80's.

What are you talking about? I never said anything about recorded songs?

In an interview he stated that he gave Bruce 30 and Richie brought 1. He wasn't specific as to what stage the songs were in or what album they were for. He said Real Life was the last song Bruce did for them before his passing.

Jon has his own recording studio and it capable of some sort of production so you don't really know what stage the songs were in when he handed them over.

By the way, these are the conversations I love to have and was hoping my 90's post could morph into something like this. I can't take these simple topics anymore on ranking your favorite song or worst line. Like I stated, my 90’s topic was influenced from the Box Set topic while I was reading about the These Days songs.

I agree. I hear some of the same guitar tones as Love Is War and Borderline.

Nah dude, Outlaws is definitely a 90s demo. Simply because of the vocals in the high bits. High vocals in the 80s demos were very strained and gravelly.

I'm usually the biggest defender of Rdkopper in here, but I'm 98% he is wrong on this one.

Yeah the guitar riff definitely has that 80s sound but the chorus and the high bits definitely has than 92/94 demo era. It almost has the sound of Love Ain't Nothing But a Four Letter Word (rock version without the brass).

Also im pretty sure i've watched interviews where Jon has got it totally wrong about when songs were written and released...im sure its either 92 or 94

Ack, you're right, my apologies!

I agree with you about the amount of songs they gave Bruce. They talked about going through the huge pile of songs they amassed in that time period, I don't think they recorded anything with Bruce past Real Life. The demos have such a loose feel, it was probably just them and Obie.

You think that, Bon Jovi will release new "box set" the next year?

We should ask.
