Default why don't we do reviews?

fair enough it's only an opinion but why don't we do reviews of albums or whatever here?

I don't mean just sayign yeah thats good or it's shit, actually taking a bit of effort to write about it.

Cause we're too tired to read them?

I don't like reading reviews of anything. I have my opinions on things, but I wouldn't want them to influence others. If there was an artists I didn't like or an album or whatever, and I gave it a bad review, it could disuade someone from listening to that artist or album, and I wouldn't want that. I think that people should judge things for themselves.

I personally never read reviews anymore for anything (albums, films etc) because I know that my opinion will be different to theirs, maybe only a little different, but there is a distinction. If I had paid any attention to reviewers I probably wouldn't have seen many of what are now perhaps some of my favourite films, or listened to albums that I now enjoy listening to.

I've started building a film website, but decided not to include any reviews on it, at least not opinionated reviews. I will give information about films, previews, etc, but not reviews.

Aloha !

Thomas Anderson, the moderator of the Movies forum doesn't like reviews, that's why the forum that was started by him, is filled with reviews.

We have discussions about films, people discussing with each other which films they like and don't like, but even if 100 people don't like a certain film that doesn't mean that no-one will like it. There's recently been a thread created about films people hate, and some of the ones others posted are ones I love (Star Wars, The Matrix etc).

That's not what I said. But if people post about a new movie they've seen, you want them to know if they liked it and why. It's a review, so your theory about not liking reviews doesn't make sense.

I just don't like the way that reviews influence people.

That's up to the people who read a review. And there are magazines and/or internetsites that aren't exactly wrong about their reviews. Plus like on a website like movies.com you get to read a lot of reviews after another, and they post the positive and negative reviews together to let you see if a movie is bad.

The same for music, if you read enough magazines you can easily decide if an album is good or not. People who don't buy an album or don't go to a movie just because of one review are narrowminded. And ofcourse there are always exceptions. Never judge something completely before you've witnessed it yourself.

But in my opinion it's always interesting to read what other people think about new stuff. Though not a lot of people can write good reviews. Most end up like "this album is good, I like it and you should buy it"

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

To the most, you get what the average opinion is. Yet, it tells you nothing about what your opinion might be. I agree with the rest.
