I've seen suggestions along these lines in other posts. Why can't it be that these guys are just phenomenal song writters. Why is it that if they write a CD full of hits, people think they are just writting songs for the radio or an award or something. I don't think they wrote this for anyother reason than it was just another song they wrote. It just happens to be good enough to receive the recogonition that it is.

Also, if it is so easy to write a song specifically to win an award, why didn't they do it earlier. Why only one?

It became very appearant, to me at least, with the release of the box set, that these guys just don't write a bad song. Some maybe not so good as others, but these guys are seasoned song writters.

It would be like saying Barry Bonds is hitting homeruns just to break the record. NO. He's trying to win ball games. He just happens to hit the ball out every other one. He's gotten better, & he knows what it takes.

I dont think BJ have ever really been into winning awards. I thin they stopped wanting media appreciation a long time ago.

I don't think anybody writes songs for the sole purpose of trying to win awards.
They just try to write the best songs they possibly can! End of.

Hardly. I think it's obvious that they want media attention as they continue to write catchy songs to try and appeal to the mainstream.

I'm having trouble understanding if some think it is "a bad thing" if they try to write catchy songs. Also, it reads as though some think it would be better if they wrote songs that did NOT appeal to large numbers of people. Why would this be a negative?

Anyway, to answer the question, I would think just the oposite. I don't think that they want an award, but, they DID want to crossover to reach a new audience who may not usually be into their songs.

Jon once said that as a songwriter you don't write a song and say to yourself, "I really hope people think this sucks." He said he releases stuff he likes, but he still hopes the public will like it too. Sometimes people like it and sometimes they don't. It's not that easy to predict what will be a hit and and what won't. I don't think they set out to win an award, but to appeal to a different audience--which in reality is made up of a lot of the people who were their audience in the late 80's/early 90's.

mainstream of the people not the media... a lot of these awards are not given out by the public that is why BJ dont seem to rate them.. in the past they have given their awards away.
