I can tolerate his voice a lot more on 2020 than WAN. I found his vocals the worst on WAN by a mile.

It's really interesting how many different opinions there are on Jon's voice. I've read comments where people think his voice is fine on this 2022 tour.

Yeah, funny though, as we keep discussing this matter over the years (damn, decades now!), he keeps coming for another album/tour .

What you say has been true, but honestly I just don't see how he can possibly keep doing that now

I get the same feeling when I listen to WAN, THINFS, and 2020.

I don't think the songs work collectively as an album... but there are a lot that work individually. Listening to any one of those albums from start to finish can be a battle but if I'm listening to Bon Jovi as a stuffle and songs from those albums come on, I can find enjoyment within a lot of them.

I feel like all albums after WAN were the John Shanks project featuring Jon Bon Jovi on vocals. I have a feeling the vocals were recorded in a take or two and production and vocal enhanced technology were used afterwards. This is what takes the passion from the songs. And Jon doesn't have the vocal strength to pull them off live.

The last record with good voices was Crush. The rest was poor, with maybe a couple of decent vocal songs here and there, but nothing more. TLFR 2003 was lame because of Jon's voice and the song selection (they were all slow), not because of the arrangements, that's was the more interesting of the record.

I don't mind though all these, as long as it doesn't sound as bad on the studio as it does live now.

About 2020, I don't think it's a worse album than THINFS or WAN, they all seem to me to have some decent songs and the rest soporific. But within that Status Quo, 2020 is slightly better than THINFS and WAN. I have listened more times to 2020 album in 2 years than THINFS and WAN in these last 6-9 years. So despite not being a great album, at least it is a little better than the previous ones mentioned (for me). I still think his best effort of the last 10 years has been Burning Bridges.

If Jon finally stops making albums I will be very sad. Since, although we all agree that they only have a few good songs per album, I love those songs. Imagine that after Crush, the band had retired for good. They would have a very solid discography, but we would have missed so many interesting songs (Undivided, Hook Me Up, Another Reason To Believe, HAND, Last Man Standing, Bells Of Freedom, Walk Like A Man, Brokenpromiseland, Loves The Only Rule, I'm With You, We Don't Run, Who Would You Die For, A Teardrop To The Sea, I Will Drive You Home, When We Were Us, Blood In The Water, Luv Can...... and many more.

Quality over quantity, but quantity also counts. I think he can still give us some great songs for years to come.

When Jon decides to end Bon Jovi, I'll understand. But I hope that JBJ will continue as an artist by making his solo albums. That would be a great way to continue for me. I want the same about Richie, I don't care that it takes a while to release his music, I just want him to keep doing it.

Default 2020: The New Album

After almost 2 years, I think 2020 is a solid album, but I need to be in a certain mood to listen it from start to finish. Also, the damage in Jon’s voice is quite evident, even with studio magic, which I first noticed in Walls.

That being said, when I update my favorites playlist, definitely Beautiful drug, Brothers in arms, Blood in the water, Luv can and Let it rain will be there.

I don’t hate the other ones, but as I said, I need to be in a very specific mood to listen to them. When I first listened to Do what you can (the acoustic version that led to the fan-provided second verse contest) I thought it was going to be a rock ballad (and got a bit let down when I listened the country-ish final version), and Limitless could be better with a guitar solo instead of that hideous “left to figure out…” part.

It's nice to find another Burning Bridges fan. It was supposed to be just a throw away when Jon was fighting with his label, but I have always really liked it.
