Default The Beach Boys - Summer's Gone (co-written by Jon)

Aloha !

I can't remember reading anything about this, but the last track of the new Beach Boys album was co-written by Jon. I don't think he wrote together with Wilson but just gave it away with Wilson and Joe Thomas (producer of the new Beach Boys record) changed things about. If Jon co-wrote with Brian Wilson surely he'd have bragged about it?

Anyway, here's the song:

And the lyrics:

Summer’s gone
Summer’s gone away
Gona away
With yesterday

Old friends have gone
They’ve gone their separate ways
Our dreams hold on
For those who still have more to say

Summer’s gone
Gone like yesterday
The night’s grow cold
It’s time to go
I’m thinking maybe I’ll just stay

Another summer gone

Summer’s gone
It’s finally sinking in
One day begins
Another ends
I live them all and back again

Summer’s gone
I’m gonna sit and watch the waves
We laugh, we cry
We live then die
And dream about our yesterday

It doesn't sound like a Jon Bon Jovi song at all, it kind of has Pink Floyd influences in it though I do think that's the work of Brian Wilson and Joe Thomas. I really wonder when the song was written. Any thoughts?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

That's incredible! ...it sounds like a Beach Boy song. I don't see Jon's finger print on it anywhere. I would definitely like to know more about it.

One thing Jon never does is brag about the songs he co-wrote.

He's written a ton of songs for other artist throughout many years and he's never bragged about any of them, unless maybe asked specifically.

I think it's a respect thing across the industry. If Max Martin ran around shooting his mouth off that he wrote IML, Jon would be pissssed. So I think the same goes in the opposite direction.

Sounds like maybe a Lost Highway track that missed the cut. Doubt there's much of the original in there though beyond the lyrics and maybe basic melody though.

Edit: we're all wrong - and it's gotta be true cos it's got a Frank Sinatra reference... Only Jon...:

Quote:
"Summer's Gone," the final track on "Radio," was finished with the help of Jon Bon Jovi. " 'Summer's Gone' was something we wrote one verse to and then Jon Bon Jovi came by the studio one day and he called it Brian's 'My Way,' " Thomas said. "Jon collaborated with us a little on it, changing the melody in a couple of spots. He wrote some really nice verses that kind of tied it all in together. We definitely appreciated the contribution because it took it from one great verse to one great song."

Makes sense.

We laugh, we cry
We live then die
And dream about our yesterday

Has JBJ written all over it.

Exactly, good point.
