Default Songs That Bring Back Memories

Alright, so here's the deal... What songs bring back specific memories that you really miss or hold dear to your heart?? Why? Post the lyrics for everyone to read also.

There's one song that makes me think about a bunch of things actually. 23 by Jimmy Eat World is a song that brings back good/bad memories. For the last couple years I've been traveling to Dallas to see my girlfriend. I'm usually only there for a couple days, but I always end up coming back on a late Sunday night. Specifically the winter times when it's cold out. At one point during the way back, 23 plays and it really brings tears to my eyes. I'm driving away from the girl I love, I'm alone on the road and all I can see around my are lights and stars. Even to this day this brings tears to my eyes and I'm not really sure why. When I think about it, it actually makes me happy in one way, but also hurts me. I don't know, am I weird?

23 - Jimmy Eat World

I felt for sure last night
That once we said goodbye
No one else will know these lonely dreams
No one else will know that part of me
Im still driving away
And I'm sorry every day
I wont always love these selfish things
I wont always live
Not stopping

It was my turn to decide
I knew this was our time
No one else will have me like you do
No one else will have me, only you

You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine

Amazing still it seems
Ill be 23
I wont always love what I'll never have
I wont always live in my regret

Youll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine

You'll sit alone forever
If you wait for the right time
What are you hoping for?
I'm here I'm now I'm ready
Holding on tight
Dont give away the end
The one thing that stays mine...

One song that will always be close to my heart. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

Ryan

L.O.V.E. - Natalie King Cole

Being 7 months pregnant, painting the nursery room........ I had the entire NKC album on replay all the time. Later on, when the baby was crabby, I put on the cd and he would immediately go to sleep. good stuff.

L is for the way you look at me, o is for the only one I see

V is very, very extraordinary, e is even more than anyone that you adore

Can love, its all that I can give to you, love is more than just a game for two

Two in love can make it, take my heart but please dont break it

Love was made for me and you, musical interlude

Yeh, l is for the way you look, youre looking at me

And o is for the only one I see, v is so very, very extra ordinary

Now e is even more than any, any, anyone that you adore

Can love, its all that Im gonna give to you, oh love

Is more than just a game for two, two in love can make it

Take my heart but please dont you break it, cause love

Was made for me and you, Im telling you love

Was made for me and you, dont you know that love

Was made for me and you...

The entire album has very special meaning to me and I have not been able to get myself to listen to it for many many many years ... not sure if I'll ever be able to again.

Black - Pearl Jam

1994, final year of highschool. I never liked highschool since I've had some pretty rough years in there, but this last year was alright. Everyone of my year were in their exams and we all felt more or less connected; we were all in the same stress and everyone showed interest in how the other was doing.

I often hang out in the basement of the school. It was a dump; graffiti on the walls, old couches and chairs everywhere, but it was our dump and we could smoke in there and play the music really loud. At times we would just sit there being drunk or stoned, cause someone managed to sneak in some stuff. Both Nirvana's "Nevermind" and Pearl Jam's "Ten" were played very often and I remember I felt swept away by 'Black' every single time I heard it. And not just me, but almost everyone I hung out with. We all got more or less silent and just listened or singing along in a soft tone.

I've never felt more connected to people from my age than back then. It's my only really good memory of highschool and I bought the album when it turned out I passed my exams.

One of the songs I hold very dear to my heart is Brian Mays Too Much Love Will Kill You. At many points in my life this song has been very special to me.

When the song was in the hitlists over here my brother was at the age of recording songs from the radio and creating his own hitlist tapes with a friend from next door. I was a little younger, but thought it was really cool what they did. So I copied their tapes and created my own hitlists. Too Much Love Will Kill You (as well as The Scorpions' Wind Of Change) was one of the songs that has been on my #1 position for weeks.

I still have these tapes and it's funny, me spelling / pronouncing the English titles of the songs when I was 8 or 9 . Unfortunately the tapes are at my parents, can't check them now.

Somehow it feels this song is connected to that unworried chilhood of me. It brings back memories of a good time.

Later in life this song always popped up again someway or another. Playing it on constant repeat everytime I felt down, overanalysing the song with a friend on our first holiday without parents in France... I must've heard this song a billion times. And now that I came to understand English and also the lyrics, I love the song even more. Although the lyrics never really were about me... the passion, the words, the voice of Brian May... it's a masterpiece .

---------

Im just the pieces of the man I used to be
Too many bitter tears are raining down on me
Im far away from home
And Ive been facing this alone
For much too long
I feel like no-one ever told the truth to me
About growing up and what a struggle it would be
In my tangled state of mind
Ive been looking back to find
Where I went wrong

Too much love will kill you
If you cant make up your mind
Torn between the lover
And the love you leave behind
Youre headed for disaster
cos you never read the signs
Too much love will kill you
Every time

Im just the shadow of the man I used to be
And it seems like theres no way out of this for me
I used to bring you sunshine
Now all I ever do is bring you down
How would it be if you were standing in my shoes
Cant you see that its impossible to choose
No theres no making sense of it
Every way I go Im bound to lose

Too much love will kill you
Just as sure as none at all
Itll drain the power thats in you
Make you plead and scream and crawl
And the pain will make you crazy
Youre the victim of your crime
Too much love will kill you
Every time

Too much love will kill you
Itll make your life a lie
Yes, too much love will kill you
And you wont understand why
Youd give your life, youd sell your soul
But here it comes again
Too much love will kill you
In the end...
In the end.

travis' driftwood reminds me of a school trip to alton towers. i must have been in 3rd or 4th year but it always reminds me of that because i saw the video for the 1st time just before we left and thought man that songs great.

hedonism by skunk anansie will probably always remind me of sitting tripping on mushrooms in my hostel in amsterdam when i was busking. i love this song anyways but being high sort of deepened the song and everyone was just sitting around looking at each other and you could almost feel everyones thoughts as if we were all thinking the same thing. kinda makes you feel a unity with your fellow man. was really cool actually.

there';s a damien rice song thats name escapes me that always reminds me of my 18th birthday. my girlfriend at the time bought me his album and we lay there listening to it and well... this tune came on and built up and it was really intense and i thought man this is th ebest music ive heard in years.

love me back to life remembers me of certain exchanges of a sexual nature i had with her too.

The ones that work everytime I hear them are the songs or bands we used to cover when I was in band.
The ones that bring up the most memories, and the stongest ones, would be:

Heroïn - Velvet Underground
Otherside - RHCP
Muscle Museum - Muse
Comme elle vient - Noir Désir
Les jeux sont faits - Les Sheriffs
All Along the Watch Tower - Jimmy Hendrix
I wish I was Queer So I Could Get Chicks - Bloodhound Gang
Headache - Franck Black

Some chessy ballads often remind me of my 12/13 years old and the first girls I dates... Stuff from the Bangles - Eternal Flame ( ) to Guns'n'Roses Don't Cry & November Rain or U2's One later on.

the lyrics are stunning but i find his vocals terrible- almost to the point where i think it removes the song of all its meaning

I've always thought that's how it's meant to sound. I remember Jim saying in an interview that you can make the songs lyrics mean whatever they want. I can't say I agree because it just sounds so sad. I enjoy his vocals though.

Keith Urban's improv at the end of You'll Think Of Me:

Someday I'm gonna run across your mind
Don't worry I'll be fine I'm gonna be all right
While you're sleeping with your pride Wishing I could hold you tight
I'll be over you and on with my life.....
Hey when you're lying alone in the middle of the night
Wishing I was there to hold you tight
That's when you're gonna think about me baby
Hey in the middle of the night when youre lying alone
And baby you wish I was coming home
But I ain't ever coming home
You shouldn't have treated me this way
Hey yeay yeay Hey yeay yeay
Why did you go and break my heart
Didn't you know how much I Loved U
I bet some cold and rainy night
I bet some cold and rainy night
You'll think of me

Dire Straits- Romeo and Juliet

A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it ?
Juliet says hey its romeo you nearly gimme a heart attack
Hes underneath the window shes singing hey la my boyfriends back
You shouldnt come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway what you gonna do about it ?
Juliet the dice were loaded from the start
And I bet and you exploded in my heart
And I forget the movie song
When you wanna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?
Come up on differents streets they both were streets of shame
Both dirty both mean yes and the dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals ?
Where you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me think and thin
Now you just says oh romeo yeah you know I used to have a scene with him
Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above Ill love you till I die
Theres a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?
I cant do the talk like they talk on tv
And I cant do a love song like the way its meant to be
I cant do everything but Id do anything for you
I cant do anything except be in love with you
And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All do is keep the beat and bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Julie Id do the stars with you any time
Juliet when we made love you used to cry
You said I love you like the stars above Ill love you till I die
Theres a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realise it was just that the time was wrong juliet ?
A lovestruck romeo sings a streetsus serenade
Laying everybody low with me a lovesong that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight steps out of the shade
Says something like you and me babe how about it ?

Doing my year 12 exams I had recently purchased These Days.

So it was a lot of Something for the pain, These Days, Damned, Something to Believe In, etc.

Also I had been listening to Hanging By a Moment by Lifehouse.
