Yep, that's why Bon Jovi went straight back to their true hard rock sound after Richie's departure

Hahah blaming Richie for the band's sound because of a song he guested on. Jesus, we've really hit the bottom of the barrel here.

To be fair I think it was a joke.

Either way, I think RSO was a misstep and if Richie's next project was so heavily influenced by pop I would be stunned. My guess would be he mostly knows what his fans want and will aim to deliver it.

I repeat what I often say, I am much more interested in Richie's next album than I am Bon Jovi's.

Yeah, way too "modern".
But the parts of Sambora could be really great with another instrumentation of course.
And the lyrics are good!

Fair enough but some of those jokes get so tiring.

The jury is still mostly out on Richie as we await music from him, but my hunch is that Jon and Richie were/are more aligned than divided in their aspirations to be big and relevant and willing to commercialize their sound to achieve it. This is based on everything we heard from both of them them in the past decade - Aftermath, WAN, BB, THINFS, and the RSO thing.

Yeah, I'd go with this. Both of what they did without each other had elements of what they brought to the other one. Richie's music after leaving the band wasn't as balls-out rock as people hoped and Jon's Richie-less music was a little more aggressive than the previous album and more guitar driven. But they both did what they did do get the sound they got and it's pointless to blame at this point.

I agree with you, but wasn't that always the case!?
Bon Jovi never were the trend-setter musical-wise, they always released what they thought will sell best. No matter if it was Slippery, Crush or This House.

Absolutely. But I put my comment in the context of the Bon Jovi vs Richie discussion, which really only makes sense to contrast recently.
