Default Warrant - Rockaholic

Anyone heard/bought this album?

15 songs of which 10 are very good. 3 are OK and 2 are plop.

But its a good effort with new vocalist Rob Mason of Lynch Mob fame.

give it a listen and let me know your thoughts.

no worries.

They made it big with Cherry Pie (good album) - it sold well - then Grunge came along and the follow up Dog Eat Dog just about sold 500,000

they sacked orignal singer Jani Lane, brought him back and sacked him again!

last album had a different singer to this one but I like Masons voice.

They were supposed to be supporting Dave Lee Roth on his Little Aint Enough tour years ago but Jani Laine fell off stage and broke his ribs IIRC so we had SKIN instead.
I think theyre playing Firefest 2011(Nottingham) and I,m hopefully going to all three nights so may have to have a listen.

Thanks for the recommendation. I had no idea they still exist, let alone have just released a new album. I gave it a shot and...

It sucks dick. I am deeply sorry for saying that though.

Okay, it's not actualy that dreadful, but it's quite pathetic. Some music deserves not to stand the test of time and this is a good example of that. 80s music with 2010s production just doesn't work. You have to change something just to stay listenable for such a long touble. I'm not saying you have to be Bon Jovi or Def Leppard and change the genre every few records. But look at Journey for example. They've stayed so faithful to their style for more than 30 years, yet their last two albums sound fresh and fun. I'm not bashing the performances each member has put into this work, because they all sound to be skilled and professional musicians, including the new singer. It's the overall vibe that I hate.

Maybe it's just my age. But hey, at least that doesn't make me biased to getting into a specific kind of new music just because it sounds exactly like stuff I grew up on listening which actually used to be relevant decades ago. No intentions to be disrespectful, just stating my opinion.

P.S. 'What Love Can Do' is half-decent to my ears, probably because it sounds more like an old-school rock rather than dated and forgotten rock.

It's a piece of shit.

Their only good album is Dog Eat Dog, which is highly underrated

Very disappointed in this album.
Warrant doesn't work without Jani Lane. I think Jani Lane is one of the most underrated songwriters of his generation. Albums like "Ultraphobic" and "Belly 2 Belly" were awesome, and if any other band had released them the critics would have loved them.
This album just sounds like a cheap, rushed album.

Just found out that Warrant are off the Firefest bill and are to be replaced by W.E.T.(Jeff Scott Soto) . Going to be a busy October for me now. Y&T/House of Lords/ Firefest in 3 weeks.

No way looking at this without realizing the hard truth - it sucks donkey balls.

80's rock in 2011-production fluff doesn't cut it nowadays. My ears hurt. What Love Can Do is pretty much the only song that is, moderately, ok.
