I'm currently addicted to Johnny Cash's Hurt. I saw the video a couple of nights ago and was moved. I'd seen it before but took no notice. It's got to be one of the most emotional videos that I've ever seen.

I have both Nine Inch Nail and Johnny's versions and, while the original is good, it just seems like it was written for Johnny Cash.

What do you think? I'm no Cash (or country) fan but it's simply brilliant.

Its definitely one of the best videos I've seen in a while. I dunno if Trent Reznor wrote the song with Jonny Cash in mind, but it certainly says a lot. I'm sure it has made many grown men cry!

Haven't seen the video, but the song as Johnny Cash peforms it is brilliant. Starts off kinda slow, but by the time it ends, its a very powerful song.

I just got kev to download it for me so i could work it out and get the lyrics and I'm going to see if ashlea wants to cover it in edinburgh if it sounds cool.

want to arrange it for the full band too. think it would be great to make heavier and finish off a set with it.

Can you upload a recording when you finish playing it? I think it'd be cool to hear. Also, you might want to keep it...I don't know...simple, like Johnny Cash did. I think it's simplicity is one of the reasons it so moving. To make it into a hard rock song would kinda kill its power I think.

i don't mean hard rock as in everything going crazy but i think if you could pull it off properly it would be amazing.

nothign over the top just driving the end of it like the cash version.

try and cop a listen to mazzy starrs fade into you done live by flickerstick. the original is one of the most moving songs ever but flickerstick rock it up and still make it mean something.

to give you an idea of what I'm envisaging.

the song is brilliant, no doubt about that but there's so many more layers you could have in their.

I'm thinking: keep the 1st verse, chorus and 1st verse relatively the same then the 2nd chorus bring in stacatto strings to keep it driving, a drum roll but keep well back in the mix, a ride cymbal bell being struck on every 2 and 4 so it sounds like a bell and will keep with the pedal'd G on the piano which'll still be in there.

add some tasteful electric guitars maybe just strumming every 1st measure and a cool refrained solo.
