Default Celebrating New Jersey 30: rare stuff from personal archive

hello folks!

So two years went FAST, my original thread for SWW30 can be found here:

https://drycounty.com/jovitalk/bon-j...f-from-t69616/

So TODAY is the day New Jersey album was released THIRTY YEARS AGO. I absolutely LOVE the album. Its the pinnacle of Bon Jovi's career. Extremely well produced, catchy yet down to earth songwriting and excellent playing and participation from the whole band.

First seven months of 1988 band was away from public eye and according to various interviews was facing ENORMOUS pressure to top the success of Slippery When Wet. And boy did they top that! Although overall sales werent as high as Slippery, the band basically reigned the hard rock scene until early 1990 when the Jersey Syndicate Tour ended.

Here are two essential audios to listen to.

19th September 1988 - Rockline interview etc. with Jon, Richie and Dave

New Jersey 30th Anniversary w/ Redbeard featuring Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora
(this webcast was updated this year, I'm 99% certain the interview was conducted few years earlier (~2013 or so) as I did listen to this already couple of years back being 25th anniversary or so)

http://www.inthestudio.net/online-on...h-anniversary/

As mentioned before, got rather wide collection of Bon Jovi articles from the 80s and as months go by I'll be posting these articles etc., related to New Jersey here on this thread for your viewing / reading pleasure. Something that most of you may not have seen.

...SO, Lets go...AGAIN....!

Thanks, man!
Already loved your thread for Slippery!
It's great to read all those old reports.

Hah! About Vancouver, Canada... "True is that we recorded New Jersey in the exact same room of the exact same studio we recorded Slippery in. 'Cause I'm superstitious." lol

Celebrating NJ30: RARE STUFF #02 - "Guitar Jam" pt. 1 & pt. 2 articles from the "Guitar - for the practising musician" magazines MAY 1988 & JUNE 1988.

Just finished editing this for my musician mags project and thought it'd be nice to share here. This edit includes mainly Sambora's comments. Some interesting stuff here:

"We did 240 some odd gigs and we soundchecked every one all the way to the end. We had a lot of moniter problems this year. We changed companies three times. Monitor men went in and out like water. When Bon Jovi plays live it's heavier than it is on the record. It's a lot of guitar and we don't use tape so we do a lot of background vocals. All five of us sing. As the months go on a singer's voice can get weaker. It doesn't have the power. I have a voice that may not be good but it's loud. I'm blowing shit up. Our bass player [Alec John Such] has one of these voices that has its own EQ. It cuts trough no matter what. He's the real high voice. The other guys are singing loud too so it's almost a heavy metal environment with quartet vocals. Monitor men were pulling their hair out. We soundchecked, but what a pain in the ass. Everybody is trying to fix the problems from the last night all at the same time. You only have so much time before the union opens up the hall and lets the kids in. There is never enough time to make that soundcheck really count. Every room is different to begin with and then when you put all the kids in every room is even more different."

ENJOY!!

Very Interesting the beginning, when they started to play from bars, start from below until the top, that's the real thing! I hope they don't forget their roots... good thing about guitar is that you never can be bored

Actually & exactly 30 years ago the band was preparing to play some club shows to "get back to roots" in USA. These are the known dates:

October 15, 1988 Edison U.S.A. Yes
October 16, 1988 Woodstock U.S.A. No
October 17, 1988 Poughkeepsie U.S.A. No

from: http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/04_N...g_0_Promo.html

And at least one of the shows was taped:

Artist: Bon Jovi
Date: October 15th, 1988
Venue: Raritan Manor
Location: New Jersey, USA (Fanclub Gig 1988 )

Setlist:
01 - Helter Skelter
02 - Jon talking
03 - Wild In The Streets
04 - Runaway
05 - Jon talking #2
06 - Homebound Train
07 - Jon talking #3
08 - You Give Love A Bad Name
09 - Jon talking #4
10 - Born To Be My Baby
11 - Wanted Dead Or Alive
12 - Living In Sin
13 - Blood On Blood (cut)
14 - Bad Medicine (cut in)

Unknown cassette generation --> Nakamichi DR-3 --> Audacity --> CDex (FLAC compression level 8 )

Setlist.fm knows nothing about these pre-New Jersey syndicate tour dates, so maybe someone here knows more?

I have that show but I don't know any more about it other than my version says it's an upgrade.

I also have a date 1988-10-11 (a few days earlier) from Zurich so there must have been some European promotion.

I'm afraid you have Zurich mislabeled. It was November 10th and I'm pretty sure me writing the day in the European way (day/month/year) back then when I transferred the audio tape might've caused that confusion.
