All I could find was rumors of people thinking he had vocal cord surgery. I found nothing saying he actually did have the surgery.
R.I.P. Chris.

To get back to the topic of Jon himself. I seriously doubt he has ever had vocal cord surgery because Jon seems to have never rested his voice ever which he would have needed to do after surgery.

How long is the rest period needed, typically? I genuienly don't know.

Gee it seems like there are all kinds of vocal cord surgeries. Like surgery for polyps, surgery for lesions, vocal fold, paralysis, etc. I guess the time would actually depend on the condition that needs fixed by the surgery?

It just seems to me that Jon just loves to talk so I can't see him being quiet for very long. I remember the comments on his long HOF speech.

Varies depending on the type of surgery, but usually you can count a few weeks of shutting up in after it was done.

The pandemic induced two year break from touring would have been a pretty good opportunity. Oh well.

My theory is, he had some type of emergency repair done and maybe not a full on surgery to make him sound like he's 20 again. After that last tour, I think reality kicked in. Even if you compare it to the '17 / '18 tour, his singing had gotten a million times worse. The struggles with the most simplistic songs were real. He might have caused serious damage during that last run. You could see the pain and the reason why that had back up tracks ready for him to sing over.

Covid and a Pandemic was not a time for someone to go into a hospital to get a surgery. He was also promoting an album via Zoom Etc, in which he probably did over 100 interviews during that duration. Once the 2020 album promo / tour was done, he decided to get a procedure. The guy has been all over the globe recently so who knows when he had this done but if we are looking at a scar, it was probably a while ago. Like, immediately following that final tour (like days after).

I think he had a procedure done to fix a medical problem. Maybe he had some type of scaring removed to clear his airways. Maybe he had thinning cartilage which was causing sourness/ bleeding.

Jon's friends are singers in their 70s and 80s who are still bringing it. Billy Joel, Paul McCartney, Bruce, etc. Jon just turned 60 and seems to be in great physical shape so he's too young in comparison to throw in the towel. I'm hoping that this repair can keep him going.

2020 was recorded during 2018/2019 so Jon is well overdue for some new music. This is becoming his longest stretch between albums so maybe surgery is part of the cause of that delay.

I'm pretty sure vocal chords are done inside the mouth these days.

It's probably larynx or trachea.

It's probably something to do with the pain. Many singers lose their voice, but the pain you can see on Jon's face as he sings every word I've never seen before. At least in that extreme. So maybe, with this operation, that intense pain may go away, and see him more relaxed and less tense.

Some sources say Shania Twain has the same scar as Jon when she had her vocal surgery.

He's been kinda quiet for a while which has been a pretty nice change.
