I feel kinda embarrassed that I don't know this, but why are there two different versions of Love Is War both with different lyrics?

Because after they wrote the song they decided to rewrite the lyrics.

Ask Richie and Jon. They probably liked the published version of the song better. There are probably even more different versions of it somewhere in Jon's desk.

A lot of lyrics change. Just listen to the Japanese issue of Undiscovered Soul and the international one. Both are official released but the songs are different. Some have different lyrics, some different music arrangements. Or listen to Just Older from Jon's solo-tour and Just Older from Crush. A complete verse is different.
