Default UK Rapper Posing as American Southerner Faces Deportation

Quote:
Vice.com: (A) few days ahead of the Grammy Awards, where he’s up for the Record Of The Year with fellow rapper Post Malone for the song Rockstar, 21 Savage is facing deportation, and has been denied bail...

21 Savage — real name: She’yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph — was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers who accused him of being a British national who had overstayed his July 2005 visa after he arrived in the U.S. with his family...

Atlanta (Georgia USA) has been a fundamental part of Abraham-Joseph’s identity as a rapper. He spent the bulk of his childhood in Decatur, a suburb of Atlanta...(and) been public about the fact that he was banned from the county’s school district after bringing a gun to school, although he’s since become a prominent local advocate for gun control since his younger brother died of gun violence...His 2014 drug conviction was expunged from his record, although immigration officers don’t have to honor that expungement...He has three U.S.-born children...
And his timing couldn't be worse: for the release of his next album, he told his life story in a YouTube documentary...the second half of his life, at least, if this birth certificate the UK Daily Mail published is genuine:

What bothers me about it is that it's hand-written -- in 1992? MY original birth certificate is TYPED, and I'm not much older than Tico!

His side of the story: Mr. Abraham-Joseph was born in the United Kingdom (and)...arrived legally in the United states at the age of 7 under an H-4 visa. He remained in the United States until June 2005, when he departed for approximately one month to visit the United Kingdom. He returned to the United States under a valid H-4 visa on July 22, 2005...

Unfortunately, in 2006 Mr. Abraham-Joseph lost his legal status through no fault of his own.
It was certainly his fault if that's when he bought the gun to school. H4-visas are for the spouses and children of foreigners in the U.S. on work visas. Presumably, he was able to get the 2005 H-4 because at least one parent was able to prove they were still working the in the U.S. However, if he was only 14 years old as of 2006, it was up to his parents to ensure that his business was taken care of!

Quote:
Mr. Abraham-Joseph has three US Citizen children, a lawful permanent resident mother and four siblings that are either US Citizens or lawful permanent residents...
Then why did he slip through the family net -- because of his gun conviction as a juvenile and the drug conviction at the age of 22?

Quote:
Mr. Abraham-Joseph has no criminal convictions or charges under state or federal law and is free to seek relief from removal in immigration court. ICE (United States Immigration and Customs Enforcment) provided incorrect information to the press when it claimed he had a criminal conviction.
That is incorrect information: Under Federal law, ICE is NOT under any legal obligation to overlook expunged charges -- and they tend to not overlook charges involving guns, illegal drugs, organized crime, or homicide.

Quote:
Mr. Abraham-Joseph has a pending U visa application...filed as a result of being the victim of a deadly shooting in 2013. That visa was filed in 2017 and remains pending. When granted, the U visa will afford him lawful status in the United States.
Quote:
DJBooth.net:...It was Savage’s 21st birthday (2013)...(when) he...was shot six times. He is cagey about recalling the incident, but later, when he’s out of earshot, one of his friends quickly shares with me the version of the story he’d always heard...a (drug) deal turned into an attempted robbery...

In 2014...he was caught driving with 22 grams of weed, 89 pills of hydrocodone, a Glock .40, a Ruger .9mm, $1775 in cash and a scale “recovered on the middle console in plain view.”
So not even 22 grams of weed, 89 hydrocodone pills and four years could cure him of being so traumatized he can't change his nationalities?
