#31 in the Czech Republic.

Hadn't seen it at first, because didn't expect to have to scroll down as much. WAN, BB and THINFS entered at 4 or 5.

I didn't say I hated him. I just don't care for him as part of the band. I've never been a fan of bringing extra musicians on tour. I get that many bands do it, but the really good live bands don't need to. Vince can't sing either, but Motley still tours with just the 4 (if you don't count the girls who really aren't there for musical backup). Def Leppard doesn't do it. U2 doesn't do it.

This is nonsense. U2 has an extra musician behind or under the stage playing keyboards or extra guitar and play with a shitload of pre-programmed samples. Def Leppard and Motley Crue both play with backing tracks, going from vocals to full instrumental parts. It's nothing to do with "really good live bands". Do you think you're just hearing 5 people play on the album as well?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

If the girls are there adding vocal harmonies and filling out the sound it's literally the exact same situation with Everett being there though. Foo Fighters and Springsteen do it and they're great with or without the extra people, I don't feel it's a one or the other situation.

Motley Crue doesnt tour since 2015,so saying "still tours" its not really true.
And yes,I know they have a tour postponed, but until they tour again,Motley last tour ended December 31st 2015.

The thing is both backing musicians and samples have become way too much, just look at Coldplay and U2. I prefer it when it’s just them; I actually watched a bit of a Coldplay instagram concert this morning and at least ‘Magic’ was just them 4.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but Jovi, up until the Bounce tour and using lots of samples and loops live, was just the 5 guys. Metallica is and always has been just the Four Horsemen (bar a few samples).

That’s what rock is supposed to be about: 4 or 5 guys playing their stuff. Call me old fashioned, but that’s how it should be and it’s definitely how Bon Jovi sounded better.

Yeah, Bobby and Jeff started with the HAND tour, minus some promo shows around 2003. The band has been using samples since SWW but (to me anyway and I may be wrong) Bounce was the first time most album tracks played had sampled guitar parts (Though I think It's My Life does too).

I really do wonder why they started doing it...age? to be ‘in’? laziness? Just the faithful 5 sounded way better without full on sampling and extra musicians.

I really respect Bobby and those who followed, but they just aren’t ‘Jovi’ to me.

I don't think they did it out of a desire to be fashionable. I think there was some interview circa HAND that it was because there were so many extra parts on the album it made sense. Though it's strange how sparse HAND is keyboard-wise so I don't know. They also brought in someone with the tinniest guitar sound to recrate big distorted parts.

It might have been a direct reaction to how much the Bounce tour relied on sampled guitar parts. Truthfully I wish David had a bigger role that tour with some dirty distorted organ tones to fill out the sound instead of being tied to the click/grid.
