If Hugh is now a full member, it's ONLY because of how bad it would have made Jon look to have brought in John Shanks as a full member, LOL!

For which you can thank the ascendancy of MTV. Because it turned music into something you watched rather than listened to, looks and stage presence became so important it began to outweigh talent -- which is why Madonna ended up as MTV's patron saint.

Since Slippery When Wet become a monster with MTV's help, the other record labels invoked the entertainment industry's golden rule ("Do unto others as others have gotten rich doing unto others") and set off in search of a Bon Jovi of their own. On the New York City and New Jersey unsigned scenes, people started getting kicked out of their bands (in some cases, bands that they had founded!) if they didn't have "the look." And what do you think Dave's wigs, detachable dreadlocks, and hair straightening were all about?

In Behind the Music, Jon said he fired Alec.

And in this interview, he explained that Alec would never officially be replaced.

Jon is loyal to people who are loyal to him. By the time 1994 came around, Alec didn't really care anymore. He had to know that by appearing in that magazine article he was likely to be gone.

Eddie Trunk on Alex and RARHOF and Alec.

Alec had passion and stage presence. Huey is invisible on stage.

A quote from KTF Wikipedia page:

"Hugh McDonald - bass guitar and backing vocals ("Keep the Faith", "In These Arms", "Dry County")"

The record company wanted to replace both Tico and Alec when they signed Jon because they were “too old.” Jon fought to keep them and their ages on official bios were false.

Alec was integral to the band coming together. He brought Jon to both Tico’s and Richie’s attention. 2nd to David, Alec was the one to believe Jon was a star in the making.

Meh, anyone could edit Wikipedia based on theories and thoughts.
