The Aftermath tour in North America had sales so bad it was was flat out abandoned. Richie was in the band at that point.

Richie was in the band at their peak and still had struggles over here touring and promoting albums so I think Thinny has a good point about it not matter if he's in the band on not, it doesn't directly translate to sales. But RD had a good point about the way Richie left effecting people's interest. Tough to say what the numbers of that are 9 years later.

I agree, but you act as though Richie didn't have his own followers that took his side on the JBJ/RS split. The ones that were are pretty much the ones that will still follow him now regardless of how he left the band. And then there's the ones that have lost heart on BJ the band as it is (there is certainly some overlap between those two catagories).

The ones that still hate Richie for the way he left are 99% Jon die hards that really wern't that bothered about Richie's solo stuff anyways. And yes I know that is the majority of the fan base, but I really can't see it effecting his solo audience that much. It was small as it was, but very dedicated.

The recent activity with Little Steven got me thinking about his numbers. This guy has released a solo album in the past few years, and a live album, has been on tour and is in the press a lot right now with his new book...

His numbers are just over 72,000 listeners. Pretty much half of Richie's. So again, despite everything, compared to people that are in a similar situation to Richie's as far as guitarists from a big band doing solo stuff goes, his numbers aren't bad. Once he releases a new album they are bound to rise.

There are some excellent points starting from if Richie's fans even use streaming services to begin with all the way to Little Steven's numbers and many in between. One thing I don't think very relevant though is a recent album unless it is very fresh. I just don't think it matters much if there is no great interest in an artist.

I changed my mind about Richie's numbers making him irrelevant. Spotify numbers, clearly, are not at all a good way to look at it. Steve Vai is 370k and he is as famous as a guitar player can be. Unless you're Angus Young.

-"Who is Angus young", the crowd demands to know.

Sounds like it. Took him 30 odd years to do something about it in the middle of a tour!🙄
