d'you think the vocals will be tuned or replaced for the HBO airing ? I can't see Jon allowing it to be aired like THAT.

I think that they will doctor his vocals a little. Not too much, since it would be too obvious.

I'm pretty sure there will be overdubs since even the Colbert TV performance was quite doctored in hindsight.

We'll aways have the 'original' recording for comparison

According to this, it was a total do-over; not just overdubs. Apparently, they changed the order of the presentations, too.

Quote:
The editors at HBO have whittled the show down to a pretty speedy two hours and 53 minutes that honestly feels like it moves even faster.

But they changed the order in which Bon Jovi, the Cars, Dire Straits, the Moody Blues, Nina Simone and Sister Rosetta Tharpe were inducted, and in doing so, changed the show itself.

In April, the first band inducted was Bon Jovi, with a typically raunchy (although nowhere near Michelle Wolf standards) presentation by the band’s friend, “the King of All Media,’’ Howard Stern.

…In the HBO special, the LAST band inducted was Bon Jovi – and a full third of the show was devoted to the band…

…To their credit, the sound editors at HBO were able to “fix it in the mix,’’ as a clearly emotional Jon Bon Jovi had some trouble actually singing himself when it came time for the band’s requisite showcase. It wasn’t that Bon Jovi was off-key then; it’s just that his already nasal voice had lot more reediness when heard live.

A LOT more. But he was 1987-perfect when heard on tape. Hmmm.

Truth be told, Bon Jovi’s fellow inductee, Richie Sambora, far and away outsang him, which kind of gave added oomph to Sambora’s decision to leave the band and pursue his new project, RSO, with girlfriend and fellow guitar shredder Orianthi…

…I have a sneaking suspicion that Bon Jovi went first because Bon Jovi – and Howard – wanted to go first. It also happened to be a good start to what was sure to be a long night…

So there may have been some truth to Howard’s comment that he had asked if he could go first.

Those who have commented on the “long” speeches, by Jon and Nina Simone’s brother, and questioned the missing all-star jam at the end of the show might find this interesting…

Quote:
…. The show traditionally ends a big-time jam, with the inductees, presenters and guest artists onstage. Some of the most magical moments in Hall of Fame history came then.

Not this year. A spokesman for the Rock Hall at the time said one was never planned. Maybe, maybe not. In 33 years of inductions, though, there’s only been one other time that it didn’t happen – when Bruce Springsteen spent 90 minutes inducting the E Street Band in 2014.

Now, if they’d been able to fix THAT in the mix, it would have been something.
