Default Best Lyricist

let's hear what you think who is the best, or more importantly whose lyrics touch your soul?!?!

for me it would be

Chris Cornell
Scott Weiland during STP times, with VR it is getting a bit, eh, dull...
Ryan Adams
Geoff Tate
Pete Townsend (mostly The Who period though)

obviously, there are tons of songwriters I like, but to keep the list manageable, I've only included the ones I truly find extraordinary (meaning there isn't a song I find meaningless cliche shit).

I think most songwriters are going to have songs that are weaker than others. The three people who've touched me most are Jon, Keith, and Melissa Etheridge. Alan Jackson is a great writer too, but I'm not a huge fan of his music. I appreciate it, but it's not what I want to listen to all the time. Melissa Etheridge seems to write CD that I love or that don't move me at all. It's kind of hit and miss with her stuff and what I'm responding to emotionally. I can't think of any songwriter that I like *everything* they've written.

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

Roger Waters... The greatest song writer ever, IMO.

The lyrics which are able to give me all sorts of feelings, have been written by Jim Morrison.
