Default Bon Jovi TV Appearances

OK, so this bugs the crap out of me. I swear to God at least half of the tv appearances of Jovi contain NO singing from Jon whatsoever (and probably NO instrumentals either)! I have been watching the old crush tv spots and I don't think jon sings ANY of it...for example, there was a polish music award show when the guys went platinum(? I think) and they did about 5 songs and they were ALL dubs from the cds! And what bothers me even more is that NO ONE in the audience seems to notice?! How is this possible, they are 10 feet from him?

Is this 'just the way it is' in the business? am I wrong?????

Whether the guys sing and play on a TV show live is determined by that show. Some shows have totoally mimed performances. A lot have prerecorded music and live vocals. It's not the band's decision, but the show they're appearing on's policy. Some shows can't accommodate a live band. (How stupid is that?)

There was a funny clip from South America in 1993 where the song started before Richie even got on stage.

This is true what Becky says its usually down to the show, the guys prefer to sing live always have. Here in England they do sing live on most of the shows.

I have a recording of Everyday from Top Of The Pops, and it sounded awful. They sang live, but someone must have messed up with the microphones and stuff, because the sound kept dipping.

How hard can it be for the show for them to sing live? Shows like TOTP are recorded earlier in the week anyway, giving them plenty of time to sort out mistakes.

yeah i think it was TOTP from 2000, when half the songs they sang were mimed...i dunno the point in it to be truth, its not the bands fault, obviously the production have ordered it but why i dunno..

It's true! I saw One Wild Night on TOTP and it was the worst Jovi song I've ever heard. So now I know that it's not the fault of our guys.

All songs were mimed but Prayer was sung live though! Quite a decent little version I might add too.

I think you're missing a key factor... when the band films CD:UK and TOTP, aren't there other artists that same day? I thought those shows process bands through like a factory. Well, just because Bon Jovi can handle a full live performance doesn't mean the latest tits & ass flavor of the week can (chances are, she can't sing without a lot of assistance from the engineers and producers and techical gizmos of the studio) so if the majority of artists can't cut it live and it's easier on the show, Bon Jovi are the odd artist that could pull it off. Face it: the landmark TV show in America that was American BAndstand was always lipsynch... it's the business, not the band.
