Default biggest-selling band in the world... (a bit of a surprise)

i was looking up what the most successful bands in the world are, etc, and i found out that apparantly the biggest-selling genre is rap and the biggest-selling artist is a country-and-western singer called garth brooks. he has sold more records than the beatles and on average he sells 1 record every 4 seconds. bon jovi sell on average 1 record very 6 seconds, so thats close! linkin park also sell 1 record every 6 seconds too (pretty good considering theyve only been around for about 2 years).

To be honest i dont care much what the other styles of music sell and do but its nice to know bon jovi sell 1 record every 6 seconds. Im more intrested in rock sales and as far as im aware led zepplin are the biggest followed by u2 then bon jovi (i may be wrong). What web site did you find this out at?

That's cool. There must be quite a lot of bands that sell that fast though considering that Linkin Park are doing as well as Bon Jovi.

Okay, I may not make many posts, and may not challenge many facts, but when it comes to sales figures, I have the right info.

Garth Brooks is a major seller in the United States, and is in the top 5 of best selling musicians (groups/artists) of all time. I believe he is number three.

However, The Beatles are the unchallenged kings of recorded music sales, and will always be. They have sold over 1 BILLION records worldwide, and 140 million in the states alone.

They still sell about a million a year in the states, and sometimes more with compilations like "1", which sold approximately 9 million copies.

Led Zeppelin is #2, at 200 million copies total. (104.5 million in the states)

Garth Brooks is no louch though. His records still sell by the bucketloads.

Interestingly enough, Julio Iglesias is also around 200 million copies sold. Pretty good, eh.

Bon Jovi is doing well too. 100 million sold for 8 studio albums is rather good, don't you think?

By the way, I get my facts from the RIAA, the organization which officially monitors album sales. They are legit. Thanks for reading.

It's strange, because outside the US, Garth Brooks sells diddly!

No, that's not entirely true... he's not AS big outside the US but here in the states, we had a TV special of Garth Brooks performing at RDS in Dublin and the crowd was so freaking loud.. they knew every word and it was just as crowded as a Bon Jovi show. So, he may not be huge everywhere, but he definitely had/has a nice following outside the US. Plus, some parts of the US just don't 'GET' Garth Brooks - literally and metaphorically. They don't 'get it' because some people are adamant that they won't listen to country music. And other people who would listen to country music can't! Country music is the most popular form of music in the US (more than hip-hop, rap, pop, metal and rock..) but because it is a very specific genre, not everyone will listen or can listen. New York City is the #1 market in all of the states and there is not one single country radio station... very poor thought process among radio monkeys.

I know 1 billion sounds like a lot, but it is true! The Beatles are the single most important band ever. They have so many hits it is crazy. Paul McCartney is (or is just about) a Billionaire.

140 million in the us really isn't that much. Bon Jovi sold 100, so 40 million more for the best and most influential band ever, is not that much.

(Ahhh - I just called the Beatles the best band ever on the Bon Jovi message board. They're gonna spearhead me.)

Jovi rules.
