Default love song lyrics.....

OK before I'm jumped on for being too critical, I just wanna say I really think Bounce is a great album and there are a lot of songs on Crush I like too. However, does anyone find the lyrics on BJ love songs descending into absolute mush.

For example:
Save the World: "Our love is even stronger than God hoped it could be"
TYFLM: Most of the song especially "When I couldnt fly, you gave me wings"
AALY: "Weve been to hell and back again, but through it all.........", and most of the rest of the song.

For me the classic BJ love songs were Bed of Roses, Always, Lie to Me, even I'll be there for You(although it had its fair share of cheese). It just seems to me that when they are writing these new songs they are on auto pilot or reading from a book of cliches. To be honest I cringe at some of the lyrics and this tendancy for "heaven/hell" and flying is a bit childish. Again I do like Bounce and Crush and I'm not trying to be negative about the band but to me its a worrying trend. Anyone agree/disagree?

I agree on Save the World being mushy, and AALY being on autopilot, but I find nothing wrong with TYFLM. I think it's a sweet song and the "you gave me wings" part is very short. You Had Me from Hello isn't very big on cliches either. It's more of a story song, and that's why I prefer it to AALY.

I think the worst lyrics of a bj ballad ever have to be

"And I will looooove you.... alllllllways"

I don't like the song anymore. And you're right - the new ballads don't hold a candle to the olden goldies... BoR, Livin' in Sin, Never Say G'bye, IBTFY... Now there are good ballads.

Thank You For Loving Me was the song that made me a fan. I absolutely fell in love with that song when it was released and rushed out to buy Crush. Save the World is totally mushy and I agree with what everyone says about AALY. I also like Open All Night, but none of the new love songs could ever come close to the classic power ballads like Livin' In Sin, Bed of Roses or IBTFY. I think that the guys need to find another source for inspiration or something.

the older ballads had alot of pain in them which was reflected by the band members' relationships (general)...and the crush/bouce ballads reflect generally how they are now...i think thats why the recent ones are more honey syrupted...

Scorps "used" to write good love songs also, then it became hit and miss

same with BJ

compare:

"my dreams recall us being warm, i searched for you to be free, when can i rejoin you to be free"

to:

"tease me please me, noone needs to know" - which actually really rocks!

The lyrics that you posted are more cliché than anything. I posted an article about this a very long time ago, around Easter time.

The lyrics may need some spunk every now and then. Yet they are easy to sing along with, which makes it easier on me.
