Default Rehearsals (not about TLFR, but a tiny spoiler included)

Do you think that the band rehearses the songs before going on tour?

According to this, they don't. Also according to a person close to the band, they don't (which we were told this summer). But if this is correct, how come do they play different versions of songs in different tours? They have to rehearse at least something! Also, I remember hearing that they rehearsed ~60 songs for Crush tour, but that I don't really believe. So what do you think (or know)?

They do rehears. During the last tour they for example rehearsed Hard times come easy (but didn't play it at concerts) and during the tour in 2001 they rehearsed Destination anywhere (also didn't play it).

But do they have some kind of rehearsal sessions or something before the tour?

Youd think theyd learn most of the song in the studio while recording. I think the bits they would rehearse are the additions into the sonds like the end of prayer or it moving strait into bad name n things like that.

I read somewhere (I can't remember where) that they hate to rehearse, and they would rather just sort of "wing it" during the show. This might not be accurate because I only have a very vague memory of reading this, but I know I read something like that somewhere.

I think they do rehearse new songs. When Bounce was done, each bandmember had played seperatly to record the tracks. Also little overdubs can't be played. So they rehearse how to play the songs with the five of them. I think they do the same when they play covers or special arrangements (like totally acoustic). Just figure out what the best way to play is and then just play.

For variations, I think after 20 years they know eachother so well, they instantly pick up Jon's little cues.

If anyone saw the 'Bravo Profile' on Jon from 2 years ago you would have seen they rehearse. They showed a short clip of them in the rehearsal studio after Jon had finished filming the vampire film.
I think they stretch the truth some-what when they say they don't rehearse, because they say that quite often and it's clearly not true.

alot of the changes of versions happen over the course of the tour... take Born to be my baby for example... listen to it at Shephards Bush (they added the cool little "Bring it down" at the end...then they made it longer... then by the end of the tour there was a heartbeat in there with a couple added lyrics (listen to Toronto 03). Stuff like that happens everynight without rehearsing...

That's how all the records are done, if you're not a garage band. Very, very rarely does any band ever play together in a studio, and even if they do it's mostly for a backing track that will be erased from the final mix.

Nope, usually nowadays they use tapes/samples.

And of course they rehearse. Not necessarily old songs, but they have to get to know the stage, the lighting cues, where things are on the stage, where the possible pyro effects are... As for songs, they usually rehearse the more obscure songs for tour beforehand or play them at soundchecks like in Stockholm 2001. As for these little variations, they've done thousands of shows. The first time it might've been improvised, but now when Jon goes "bring it down", they've done it hunderds of times, it's not a real impro - moment anymore. And that's what's missing from most of the live shows these days, no spontaniety.

spontaniety is one of the things which make bj one of the greatest live acts around...and they still do it to the concerts ive seen
