Default 10 classic pop albums. Q review

no.7 Bon Jovi - Slippery when wet
4 stars ****

Before 1986, 2 BJ albums has come and gone leaving the world still very much rotating on its axis. then, with the record company axe quivering in the background, they recruited master songwriter-for-hire Desmond child, stopped trying to be Southside Jonny and remembered they had a singer the ladies might like. They then knuckeled down to making the finest pop metal album ever. The result was great big, chant a long choruses, verses that sped by in an instant and , in Wanted, a ballad made for lighters. They toured like demons in support of it and nothing was ever the same again.

a nice review in all i think. i dont care it being labeled as pop metal or whatever actually, its just a great album. makes me wonder if theyl ever hit those heights again.. it is possible. U2's next album is being built up as 'their best' and looking as it could go HUGE..

JBJ - I believe

"Sambora's face is a mask of joyous disbelief, as if previously unaware of his ability to play the instrument at all. Reaching the last fistful of notes, he does a fair impression of a man who is actually ejaculating into his jet black flares."

yeah, and so? theyv always been in that area of music, right from the start. so why do you find it funny then? u must like them to post here, and even if you use ''theyr old stuff used to rock etc etc'' argument that doesnt make sense coz they were just as pop back then as they are now (ok, maybe without the airbruushing and dodgy suits) but still.
Slippery when wet is great

Acctually I have to disagree there.
That's one of the biggest misconceptions made by BJ fans all around, yes maybe having a goodlooking lead singer hurt their chances at credibility, but think about the stuff that they were releasing in the 80's.
It all has a pop element to it, catchy choruses big hooks, i mean for gods sake listen to Born to be my Baby and even Livin on a Prayer, it definetly has a pop hook.
Is that bad??
no it doesn't have to be but fans often make it as so.
I'm into Bon Jovi not because they are rock or pop or metal (not even close )
I'm into Bj because of great songs, and that's more then I can say for some of their peers latest "Rock" efforts.
Just my 2 cents.

I find it funny because while ago people were fighting with teeth & nails against labelling jovi as pop. now everyone seem to be ok with it.

And, I always considerd them being in a poppy side of rock anyway. There's nothing wrong about being pop, but it is amusing how some people think it's end of the world if their fav "rock" band is referred as pop.

How to dismantle an atomic bomb. I think that is what it is called. The single Vertigo has been playing on Australian radio stations for a few weeks, its a great song.

a ton of Nirvana songs have pop elements - catchy choruses and big hooks - does that mean Nirvana should be classified as pop???

or is it pop/grunge

You know I never thought anybody could be so charming and still be a smartass
You got what I meant, and the songs I mentioned are definetly in the poppy side of Rock.
I never took part in these disscussions about the band being pop or rock because it's just a never ending boring thing.

yes, of course I know what you meant, but I just wanted to illustrate how pointless the whole discussion is, cause one can never exactly define a genre - which actually makes music interesting imo.
