Default something weird (but maybe cool) about BJ's AMA

Previous winners of the "Award of Merit" are Bing Crosby, Berry Gordy, Jr., Irving Berlin, Johnny Cash, Ella Fitzgerald, Perry Como, Benny Goodman, Chuck Berry, Stevie Wonder , Kenny Rogers, Michael Jackson, Loretta Lynn, Paul McCartney, Elvis Presley, The Beach Boys, Willie Nelson, Neil Diamond, Merle Haggard, James Brown, rock promoter Bill Graham, Whitney Houston , Prince, Tammy Wynette, Little Richard, Frank Sinatra, Billy Joel, Gloria Estefan, Janet Jackson, Garth Brooks and Alabama.[quote]

apart from that list above being quite a prestigious one with some huge names on there, dont you think its kinda cool that Bon Jovi are the only band to receive this award (with the exception of the beach boys)?
i see this as a good point and that theyr doing something unique, coz we dont see Aerosmith, Led Zepp, U2, Rolling Stones(!) etc on there.

Yeah thats true actually!

not that other bands don't deserve it as well, but usually Jovi is the one being left out of Grammy awards and overall, they arn't really the most respected band out there, despite their history. Therefore, it's great that they are getting some recognition for a change and are recieving an honour that isn't something that every other band, or any other band, already has...

that's an impressive list to artists for them to put alongside!

Alabama is a band. What surprises me is that Garth Brooks is on the list. He hasn't been around nearly as long as most of those acts and his being a past winner makes me wonder when he got it.

I thought that too. I don't like many of the acts on the list but they do all seem pretty much like big names and ones who lots of people like.

Same confused feeling here. They seem to be given a little at random

hmm its a weird list anyway, some well known names, some i've never heard about and probably most people didnt either... maybe they havent been making the right choices, BUT as for Bon Jovi this year, i think its one more 20 years celebration award not that they dont deserve it, but the 20th aniversary and the box set probably helped alot

I'm not sure when Garth Brooks won the award, but isn't he the biggest selling male country star worldwide?

Yes. But, it makes you wonder what it takes to get the award. Most names sound like acts that have real "merit" but some make you wonder if they were just picking artists to boost ratings. While Garth has achieved a lot, his career is rather short compared to most of the acts.

Any chance the award is going to just Jon Bon Jovi?
I read it in my newspaper that it was just Jon being awarded following with a performance with the band. The article mentioned Jon's solo records being included in the 100,000,000 album sales.
