what are these??

is it songs that the band can manage on the night even though they arent on the set list?

yeah, just gives them the option of playing a few more songs if they feel like it.

well thats just a shit attitude then snt it they should feel like playin more songs every night

Its not just if they want to play more songs, its also if they want to play something different. Its similar to an audible in American football. The QB calls a play in the huddle, the defense sets up a certain way, the QB then changes the play because he thinks it will work better.

Example: At the BJ show I was at in Milwaukee they were set to play Wild in the Streets but Jon ended up switching and playing Blood on Blood instead, which was a good call.

That's not the point. It could also be for the lighting guys to be ready, maybe. And for the band. And for the roadies and so forth.

Call me stupid but what does the guys changing their mind about a song have to do with the lighting guys being ready or the rodies...

The lighting guy, I'm iffy about. I assumed each song has a different lighting program, perhaps not. But about the roadies, I mean guitar techs. Is the song in a different tuning, does Jon need his acoustic. The sound guys ALWAYS have a copy of the setlist so there's gotta be a good reason for it.
