Default I'll be there for you

Isn't - I'll - a shortcut for - I will - and therefore Jon can't count?

Um, by the process of contracting, two words become one. It's like a marriage, a beautiful union of sorts.

Yeah so? It's five words if that's what you are getting at.

I asked an English teacher and he said - I'll - is 2 words

I will be there for you = 6 words

I had doubts myself so asked the question on the board of a dutch University regarding English classes, same answer I'll = 2 words (same for can't, don't etc)

Apparantly Jon can't count (as some on this board )

Ah ok that another way to defend...

So ''I' has a contract with 'will'' where is stated that 'will' will give up his 'wi' in order to get married with the 'I'.

Just like real life, so 'will' is the male?

Thanks for clearing this up

Just out of interest, what proportion of your posts are made when you're not under the influence of something mind altering?

Well while you are lecturing the board as well as Jon on their English I'd like to take this opportunity to point out that the word "sence" is spelled sense.

Oh and by the way I still think I'll is one word.

In English it is one word - though it represents two words. That's why it's called a contraction - two words are contracted (squeezed together) into one. Makes sense to me but I've been hearing it and reading it all my life.
