Default Blaze Of Glory "TLFR version?"

Aloha !

Does anyone else think that the reworked version of Blaze Of Glory that was played during the Have A Nice Day Tour, was in fact one of the songs that were originally recorded for This Left Feels Right? I think it's just an outtake of which Jon thought it was too "good" not to be heard.

I can't imagine Jon saying during rehearsal "I want this, I want that...etcetera" and ending up with that version of Blaze Of Glory.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I never thought of that actually. The tour in 2005 was 2 years after TLFR came out but certainly they have held songs longer than that ie. Diamond Ring.

I don't know that Blaze would have fit on that record as I still see it as a JBJ song not a band song (though it did get put on Crossroad). The TLFR album is subtitled "Greatest Hits With a Twist" and Blaze was not a band greatest hit as far as I know.

It's not a horrible version of the song - not like what they did to IBTFY during the first part of the HAND tour. That was an abomination and Jon must have worked that out too since that was different than what was on TLFR.

I liked Tico's drums in that Blaze version but that is about the only really positive thing I can say about it.

I dunno either way; I can see Jon wanting to do it, but I can also see him being sensible enough to realise it's a very Jon-song. And yeah, "Greatest Hits..." would imply band songs only.

It's probably an extension of the thought process, of simplyfying/acoustifying songs into different versions; probably not TLFR, but in the same ilk.

I don't mind it, but I'd take the full version with "Knocking On Heavens Door" live.

I've only heard the re-worked version on bootlegs. I don't think it's terrible, just okay....

I consider Blaze to be a band song now. It's been played enough by them, and hope it continues that way as it's my personal favourite.

I think there's every possibility that it was originally re-worked for TLFR, because it was on the Crossroads album. It's maybe not a band greatest hit originally but it's certainly the biggest solo hit any of them have had.

To be fair, Blaze is as much a band song as Runaway ....

I liked it on the HAND tour, not more than the original but i didn't mind it being done that way. I liked the outro that was played on it and i liked Tico's drums too. But seeing it on Youtube played electric as it was these past few months was so refreshing. I would have liked to have seen it in TO.

(cue me on the big screen) JBJ: "How good have you been? Oh My God!" (laughs, more teasing) JBJ: "You want it huh, you want it huh? Blood on Blood just for you, the good girl in the front row? The all request hour, the girl in the front row has just asked for Blood on Blood, ok, Merry Christmas young lady!" Amazing <3

I don't know if it wasn't put on This Left Feels Right because it's not a band song. It could be, because Blaze was on Cross Road because the record company wanted it be on there. It's not a band song indeed, but like The Walrus said, neither is Runaway. Or Wildflower. Or some songs on the boxset/b-sides from Crush...etcetera.

Also, when the Big Dogs, Jon's solo band played Blaze Of Glory, they never nailed it. It never felt like the version that we know, something that never happened when the band played it. They nailed it every time they played it.

I don't like the reworked version that much. It's obviously re-arranged so Jon wouldn't struggle with the chorusses that much, which is really what makes me dislike the song so much. I like how they build it up and expand the western feeling (not country, but western feeling) in the song, but after they've done so and it goes into the chorus, it goes to nowhere, which leaves an unsatisfied feeling. All this stuff from the band saying that all songs held up after being re-arranged is bullshit really.

I think I will, yeah. But the question that's more important for you is; will you be able to buy yourself a meet and greet?

Here are my prices:
1. Just a handshake: $500,-
2. A handshake and autograph: $750,-
3. A handshake, an autograph and a small chat: $1.000,-

Will we meet eachother there?

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan
