Thumbs down has jon sold out doing idol

i must admit i was shocked to hear that jon was involved with this trash. which is what it is. if these dweebs had talent they'd be in the clubs and the circuit which was worked by all the major bands with a 20 year + career. jon himself was on about how there was no talent in the industry no longevity in music etc not too long ago hey he even wrote last man standing as a tribute to all the people like bob dylan etc. so why the sudden turn about, i watched this show to see what he had to say and i thought he may be doing it to get the point across but no he was as non critical as all the other sycophants who pollute our screens week in week out with this garbage.

i was looking forward to hearing them play live but the new single sounds like it was left off crush/bounce etc. its not terribly good i'm afraid, its a bit samey and puts me in mind of 'open all night' again. maybe jon should take some time off from stupid stunts like 'idol' and go back to doing what he does best and maybe come up with something 'newer and fresher' because have a nice day wasnt the best album in the world and this new stuff off the lost highway could be a big disapointment too. i've been a fan along time, 20 years or so and to say i'm a bit miffed is an understatement.

"Sold out"?

Please. They were "sell outs" back when Jon was on the Today Show to promote the Moscow Festival in 1989. The Today Show? How UNrockandroll can you get? Or maybe it was before that--back when Jon first smiled for a camera. Then they started writing songs for crappy acts like CHER and LOVERBOY. I mean.... ewwww. They're not rock and roll. And THEN.... Jon had the damn audacity to go and write a song for a soundtrack and get himself on the Oscars. Rock guys don't do the Academy Awards. After that, he cut his hair. OMG. You can't be a rock star without long hair! Keep the Faith? What kind of title is that? They should have called that comeback CD: I'll Kick Your Mother****ing Ass. Now THAT would have been cool rock and roll. After that, they put an accordian in a song. Then they went off and did more solo projects. Jon and Richie and Dave have all been in movies. Sell outs. They tried marketing themselves by setting up webcams in the studio. That's selling out, right? QVC? (Yeah, okay, no sarcasm in those three letters). Gone country?

Point is... if Bon Jovi "sold out" whatever that means to you, they did it long before American Idol.

This is the music BUSINESS. Having 9 songs in the itunes Top 100 and a a top 10 CD based on presales shows that being on AI was a good business move. People ought to be glad that Bon Jovi are smart enough to market themselves. If they weren't, they wouldn't be selling out that new arena in a minute or playing 10 nights in New Jersey this fall.

what's the tune with an accordian in it?

as for the if the people had talent they'd be playing the club circuit comment.

it might not be your cup of tea but to say they don't have talent is ridiculous.

even the bad singers that are in the final of shows like this are better singers than 99% of the idiots chasing the dream in dives all over the world.

u missed the point!! jon went on a tv show here in the uk last year just before the tour began and said quite angrily if i remember he was sick of tv shows wannabees holding back real musicians. that was what he said, which was what i merely thought was a bit hypocritical to then a couple of years on to go and endorse the same thing!!! as for writing songs for cher well she was with ritchie at the time and does have a career spanning over 40 years in her own right. Keep the faith was the best album of 1992, it showed bon jovi werent a sell out in the fact that they didnt go grunge or become like metallica. a lot of bands fell by the wayside in the nineties due to grunge and i even have jon on video stating he wasnt goin to do that flannel shirt thing!!
who says rock stars can't be actors, jeez gene simmons has been in few films as have quite a few more people, most bands write songs for soundtracks in the time between albums thats called working not selling out.

the whole point i was trying to make from where i am in the Uk the music has been ruined by shows like x factor, pop idol etc. while in some pub or club somewhere some kids are trying to make it on their own, just to have a slice of that big time and shows like these make sure they never get there it destroys all the process of writing your own material, recording it, getting it played on radio etc. here in the uk you very rarely hear rock music on any radio station we get rubbish R and B and rap, plus when the winner of one of these shows does some shitty cover its made in to a hit. how can u be original when your covering other music. listen to last man standing, this song really summed it up and then we had this. sad.

what i said was they shouldnt be looking for the quick fix, a musicans ability to write great stuff comes from experiance and no quite frankly i dont think any of these freaks who turn up to grab two mins with simon cowell have talent, certainly no brain cells. who would want to be his bloody puppet, could u have seen Led Zep lining up to do a crappy cover for an ego maniac i dont think so. u might want to check out a few unsigned bands in your local pubs bet they knock the socks off the wannabees

i've played some of the best clubs for unsigned bands this country has to offer and i'd imagine seen more unsigned bands than every non gigging musician on this board and i can tell you for a fact for every good original band out there playing the club circuit, there's 100 shit bands that can't tune their instruments, sing in key, write a decent tune.

on the other hand these people might not be writing their own songs (how do we know they don't have side projects before AI?) but to say they can't sing and have no talent is just ridiculous.

it'd be like me saying david beckham is shit at football just because he's a pretty boy.

He, he, hey!!! (Yeah, yeah yeah...?) Don't talk bad 'bout the accordian!!!
It's a great instrument (no sarcasm) lol

Jim Bon Jovi: Miss Forth Of July, and Something For The Pain (live) although Dave uses the keyboard with accordiansound. Same goes for Only In My Dreams. Might be more.

I'm with Becky, Bon Jovi as always been a commerical band, so.....what's the difference now. And Jon's comments on Larry King, last year was that he'd never seen American Idol, he actually did not criticize it and only said at the end of the day the contestants will need to write their own stuff to avoid becoming lounge singers.

I see nothing wrong with going on a show that will expose your new song, that you believe in to more than 30 million viewers (in the US). Also, I think Jon was a terrific mentor and wasn't there to tear down the contestants but mentor them on how to sing the song they'd chosen.

You may not like the newer stuff from HAND and LH but that's what Jon and Richie are writing. Jon has said the town of Nashville inpired them and that LH has songs inspired by the hard times that Richie has been going through with his divorce, terminally ill father, etc.

actually there werent that commerical back in the old days, they were considered 'heavy rock' and were constantly in magazines like kerrang etc.even playing monsters of rock. i didnt see larry king as i dont live in the U.S. but he was over here on graham norton saying that he felt there wasnt any creativity in music and that it was due to shows like this. he also did the have a nice gig thing here where he showcased unsigned bands to play on the tour saying once again that they couldnt get the breaks due to the charts being clogged up with reality acts etc.

i think one of the problems on here is that most people won't remember them from 1984/5/6. so they won't know that that they started out as 'rock' band and were grouped in with acts like van halen, scorpions etc. as for music peace festival well that was doc mcgee, he had to do something to avoid jail on drugs charges so he showcased all his acts to perform in moscow thus escaping jail in the US.
i didnt say i didnt like bon jovi's music anymore i just felt that have a nice day was Bounce2. that was all and i wasnt alone in that. a lot of people didnt think the tour was up to the mark either (hull and back anyone!!) what i said was i hope this new stuff is better thats all and american idol is a waste of everyone's time involved. anyone here remember 'Gareth Gates' and Hearsay

Are you saying that Gene Simmons hasn't sold out?
