Default Richie & KISS

From Genesimmons.com:

Was Richie Sambora ever considered as a replacement for ACE in the early 80’s ?

Response from Gene:
Richie tried out for KISS around the time Ace was leaving (Creatures Of The Night, album). And, he played great.

That's around 1982.

Isn't that old news?

Anyway, yes, definitely a what-if. That's the last time Kiss ever allowed a guitar player much input in the songwriting, so it actually could've worked.

So if Kiss had Richie, would Bon Jovi have Dave Sabo? I wonder how that would have turned out like...

I've never seen anyone from KISS comment on it.

I guess so ... That's a huge "what if" right there. I wonder if he would have been as big a part of the writing as Richie is?

The biggest "what if" is what would've happened to Skid Row.

Default They Were Pissed RS Showed Up....

In 1983, just a few months before he joined Bon Jovi, guitarist Richie Sambora was in a practice room bashing out songs like "Detroit Rock City," "Hard Luck Woman," and "Rock and Roll All Night" with three musicians who know the tunes better than anyone. That's right, Sambora was auditioning for the "hottest band in the land, Kiss." "They were actually pissed I showed up," Sambora recalls. "They liked they way I played but they
were going, "you know this one? That one?" And I'm goin' "No." After being turned down by Kiss ("Honestly, I didn't really want it. I was really only trying for it as a good business measure"), he went for his next big audition, and bingo, he was invited to replace guitarist Dave Sabo in Bon Jovi. 17 years and $80 million in Bon Jovi album sales later, Sambora is sipping coffee early one morning in a New Jersey studio. In an hour, he and his bandmates will start rehearsing for their upcoming tour in support of their latest album, Crush. (Then interview continues w/"Crush.")

That's obviously bullshit, it's got most of it's "facts" wrong. The audiotion for KISS was in 1982 and the Bon Jovi gig started in 1983. And Richie didn't audition for Bon Jovi, he just told them he'd join.
