Default Make or Break for Jovi ????

Hi new to the forums this is my first post so please be nice !!!

I really feel that the new album has to be a sucess - especially here in the UK.
I used to work for Universal Music (who own Mercury Records) and although Jovi are considered one of the "super groups" their album sales in the UK have been in decline since Crush was released.
Slippery, Jersey, Faith, Crossroad and These Days have all sold either just under or just over a million copies each in the UK (Crossroads sold just over 2 million !!!)
Crush, Bounce, the live album and Have A Nice Day - have barley sold a just over a million between them and the boxset (100,000,000 fans etc) barely made it over the 2000 mark

I feel that since These Days the bands music has been patchy to say the least - IMO if you take half of crush and half of bounce you have a decent album.
HAND was a better album by the band (apart from the dreadful "who says you cant go home" - truly bland) but I cant help feel they have never reached the heights that are there for them to get to - they can do it but they seem to play it safe - to safe IMO
Its no coincedence that when they play live - the biggest reaction is for the songs off the 1st 5 albums (IMO 7800 & New Jersey are their best albums) - the newer stuff dont seem to get so much of a reaction

Im not slatting the band - they are still my favs of all time but I wish they would take of the shackles and make an album we all know they are capable of making.

I really hope the new album rocks in the way that jovi can - i havent listened to any snippetts (only the single - superb) but i just hope that it dont sound too much like "who says...." for me that is the wrong direction.

Keep the faith !!!

The band's promotion in the UK is shite. Make A Memory is still unavailable.

totally agree - they are never on any tv shows or in any magazines
there was a time when they were bigger here than in the US - not anymore though - they are still huge here but when you see the advertising someone like U2 gets its a joke

This album isn't supposed to be a rock record.
It's a Bon Jovi album influenced by Nashville. More country than rock. And that's what it's supposed to be.
So ... it's never made for the european or asian market in first place.
It's made for the american market. The place on earth where country albums sell .
So it's not a surprise that the main promotion kept at the US Market.

Things will change with the next (rock) album.

Make or break? They're one of the biggest rock groups ever. If they want to do a country album, no one can stop them. It doesn't matter if it bombs, they can still make all the albums they feel like doing.

I actually hope that they'd get a flop sometime soon, maybe it'd wake them up to make better music for a change.

Good shout. They know whatever they touch will sell buy the bucketload. Bon Jovi's fanbase is massive and extremely loyal compared to a lot of other bands.

Promotion in the UK has been shit since Crush - it's not just for this album.
Unfortunately in the UK the bands popularity has declined dramatically since Crush.
Whether people like it ot not, I think 90% of people who attend their concerts here are only going for the old stuff.
With each passing album it gets worse and this one certainly isn't going to help. MAM is getting zero airplay which is pretty much unheard of and therefore the album will disappear from the radar after a fortnight!

I'd really expected to have heard MAM on the radio by now, its only 2weeks or so until the albums released!

Bon jovi, loyal fans? pah! then why are all the album sales on a constant decline since These Days here? An older fan of the band may hear crush or bounce, think 'WTF' and not buy subsequent albums, which is probably what happens in alot of the cases. That isnt loyalty (but in a way, its being sensible!) Sure, there is the hardcore contingent of fans that will but every record, but it seems that this is what we have been reduced to as the general record buying public seem to have lost interest, where the likes of U2 etc still have that mass commercial appeal and continue to outsell their previous albums.

Its still, however, not 'make or break' for Jovi, they have nothing to be worried about. They are still pretty untouchable, being one of the few remaining 'supergroups', and their track record speaks for themselves.

But it may indeed be 'make or break' for the fans rather than the band, this album may be the final nail in the coffin for many. I actually like what i've heard and am looking forward to the album. But i dont see it selling well after the initial opening week after the diehard fans snap it up, it will vanish pretty fast like the last few albums have i suspect.
