Default Bon Jovi V Oasis

bon jovi are my fave band of all time

having read the dross on another thread i felt the need to defend the gallagher brothers.

well noel in fact.

one poster said jon was the best singer and songwriter of all time whilst noel was the worst.

noel is not the singer of oasis. he sings ocassionaly-and for a 40 year old holds it together better than jon.

however...its like comparing chalk and cheese. richie is a better singer and songwriter than jon.....and is the musical driving force in the band.

noel gallagher meanwhile, although by no means a genius, has writter some of the best tunes of the 90s and recent oasis is far more relevant than what the jovi have gushed out.

discuss...

Noel Gallagher is easily one of the best songwriters of the last century, and Oasis are one of the best rock bands of all time.

Are they are better band then Bon Jovi? Not in my opinion, but they're very different. Bon Jovi are quintessential american rock and Oasis are quintessential British rock.

In many ways Noel is a better songwriter then Jon. When it comes to writing a song about big life issues he's far better then Jon, but that's not where Jon's talent lies. Noel also seems a lot smarter and more intellectual then Jon when it comes to these issues.

Jon (and Richie) are better story-tellers and they have a gift, not only to write a brilliant heart-felt song, but to write it in such a way as to be relateable for the listener. I don't know how many songs they've written that have perfectly fit my life at a given time. I've not experienced that from another songwriter.

Bon Jovi make better albums then Oasis, who's albums tend to be very inconsistent, but Noel has a knack for writing truly spectacular songs.

Vocally Noel is still amazing. I can't compare him to Jon because I don't anything about range and what makes one a great singer but to my ears, Noel still, as he always has, sounds superb. Liam's voiced is bolloxed but when you actually go and seem him sing live it sounds deadly.

They're both brilliant bands, my two favourite, they both write brilliant songs and they both put on brilliant shows. As for who's the better of the two, well that's in the ear of the beholder, I suppose.

Richie has stronger voice than Jon -> better ? NO ! (In my opinion)

Richbie is better writer than Jon ? -> NO ! (Have you any song wrote by Richie which is better than Always or Santa Fe ? NO ! (In my opinion)

Oasis - I lkie them very much. I love Don't Look Back, Live Forever, Wonde... ecc

But Bon Jovi is biggest and better band (In my opinion).

Two of my favourite bands but Jovi are definately supreme. Plus, having seen both live - Jon puts Liam to shame.

Ain't that the truth. One of the most boring concerts I ever went to was an Oasis concert - there is no comparison live.

lyrically oasis have written alot of songs about rubbish...so have bon jovi if i am honest...captain crash anyone?
i mean neither of them are a Dylan are they? but that's not what it's about... Dylan couldn't really write a tune for toffee, all a song needs is some good melody behind it and it's a hit.

for me bon jovi are infinitely better, i have never liked oasis...i don't like liam's voice at all it grates on me. so i guess i can't be impartial in this arguement....

i would say the gallaghers are better 'rockstars' though...all the in fighting... and and out fighting! the 'we are the best band ever' act, and that they never let anyone knock them off the pedestal they have put themselves on..

Oasis and Bon Jovi are probably my favourite two bands of all time, and both have their different strengths.

Bon Jovi in my opinion (and I have only come back to this forum today after hearing some of the new stuff) are just coasting at the moment. I think they are writing weaker songs, although one or two from the most recent albums makes you think, yes this is a good Bon Jovi song, but overall I think it is pretty average material. Hopefully when I hear the new album a couple of times I might change my mind.

Bon Jovi from 86 - 95 in my opinion made world class... absolutely superb albums. Crush and Bounce I thought were good, the following ones were distinctively average, some rating on poor.

Oasis on the other hand seem to be producing solid albums one after another, maybe with the exception of standing on the shoulder of giants which I thought was quite poor.

I think anyone who actually listens to Oasis will realise that it is Noel Gallagher who is the heart beat of the band, Liam was just someone who delivered the songs, and over the years has become weaker.

It's hard really to compare as Bon Jovi and Oasis are two very different bands. Vocally Jon is still light years ahead of Liam, Bon Jovi are probably still more famous and successful on a global scale and Bon Jovi are better musicians. However, as for a live show, I wouldn't say there was much between them. Oasis are still able to give that rawness and edgyness live, a lot of Bon Jovi live seems too premediated, predictable and structured, however they still deliver an awesome live show.

Songwriting, this is probably the hardest to compare, Jon has written some amazing songs, Something to Believe In, Dry County, and songs like Prayer which have been played in most clubs around the world every Saturday night for over 20 years, that is some pedigree. However, I remember hearing a lot of Bon Jovi B sides, and yes some have been awesome, but most have be pretty average. For anyone who has heard Oasis B Sides (a lot of them are on the Masterplan album) will know most Oasis B Sides are as strong or stronger than a lot of stuff actually released on their albums. It saddens me when people judge Oasis by the chavvy persona and Liam Gallagher alone, and maybe people wont actually realise what a good singer/songwriter Noel is until he releases a solo album. For people who don't realise what the fuss is about, trying going on YouTube and looking up Noel and Gems recent acoustic sets. You will hear songs and a sound you probably wouldnt associate with Oasis, and might be pleasantly suprised.

If you ask in here, Bon Jovi will be the definite winner amongst the members on a Bon Jovi message board. But if you ask on any other message board that isn't biased to any of the two bands, for some reason I think Oasis would get the most votes. Dopn't know why, but that's probably how it would go.
