Default Extra lyrics of Something to believe in

Hi!

Did anybody understand what Jon always sings at the end of Something to believe in when they play it live? It's also on the version of the OWN album.

Thanks for help!

Fabian

Hi Fabian!
I think Jon says:

>>For John F.Kennedy, for Robert Kennedy, for Martin Luther King, for all those who believe(d), say hey hey hey hey-ey!<<

Sometimes the lyrics change, e.g. in Munich 2001 he sang: >>I believe in the heaven above, in the rain I believe, so let me hear you say hey hey hey hey-ey!<< because it started to rain when the end of the song was near.

I hope I could help you!

Default Extra lyrics of Something to believe in

Thanks!

I thought I had heard something with "Kennedy". I didn't know that the lyrics were changed on the Munich gig. I'll listen to the bootleg again.

I heard about this extra verse on the old BWJBJ board, but haven't been able to find a bootleg copy of it yet.... so if anyone out there has this one, let me know! I'll give you money! LOL

Becky

If I believe in Jesus, and I believe the Pope
If I have faith in heroes, and I have faith in hope
where there's more than just survival,
and salvation for my sins
In a world that gives you nothing, I found something to believe in

Where did the lyrics come from at the end of your post? Or is that what you were referring to as looking for and not the Munich one?

Someone could have made it up. It might seem more positive...but it reads like resignation to catholicism. So I have my doubts. Jon is spiritual alright...but he's not one to fall into the "repent! repent! and you'll go to heaven" stuff. He tends to challenge that idea to begin with.

I don't remember where they supposedly did it, but someone else was looking for a copy with those lyrics because he had heard them.

Well....I'm going to continue to doubt that those lyrics were actually done. It sounds like typical Christian/Catholic thinking and uncharacteristic of Jon who would rather challenge that thinking with believing in yourself above looking elsewhere. It changes the meaning of the song from believing in ones self (without obviously stating it) to believing in religious figures and that you'll be forgiven for being a sinner. It's interesting to read though..thanks for posting it.

Think of it this way...It would be pretty difficult to accurately remember lyric change like that hearing it at a concert..especially in all the excitement and distraction. So more than likely someone is hedging on that. Unless it was heard repeatedly on a recording....like they performances of Hey God in Johannesburg and Melbourne. If anything they tend to up the edge of the songs live...not water them down the way those lyrics would for Something To Believe In.

I guess it depends on your interpretation of the song. I see that the song clearly says that you HAVE to believe in sin in order for life to have meaning and if you believe in sin, you have to have a moral guide. If you choose Jesus as that moral guide, you better know what He has to say rather than blindly following another man's opinion, even if that man is the Pope.

Ah, that's why I think Something to Believe In is one of the greatest songs lyrically. You can interpret it so many ways. Jon kept saying it was a postive song and it took me a while to figure out why he was saying that. I heard it very negatively at first. Then I realized the positive message and was floored.
