Wrote in another thread that the rocksongs on TC are the worst I've heard from Bon Jovi, and everybody seems to have their own opinion on what is rock and what isn't. Soooo...which BJ songs are ROCK???

supid question probably all of them have rock elements but post 2000 bon jovi have become more of a commercial 'pop' band. but there is still some rock songs within there albums.

if u was a die hard u wouldnt need to ask....... or if you knew a bit about music for that matter

I recall when Keep the Faith came out there was a sharp intake of breath from many fans with comments like Jon cut his hair, the 'new' sound is to modern , at this point many fans turned their back...

KTF was a different sound from the earlier rock albums that everyone wet wild over and were blasting out of their car cassettes !!!!! ...I could still hear the rock in KTF.... Dry County being the classic, bed of roses and KTF ... even I believe had strong elements... It was a newish sound but worth Keeping the Faith for...

With Crush .....My heart first sank... the rock sound was missing and had gone over to pop except for perhaps One Wild Night. Since then on the 'rock' sound apart from maybe a few songs its been 'POP' ever since...

I can appreciate their 'pop' sound but when you've had the 'rock' its difficult to then live off the pop alone...

Why has this happened ? ...Jon has recently said he doesnt want write the down songs and wants to write up lifting songs = 'happy pop' songs ...

There is no correct answer to this question because there is no strict definition about what constitutes rock music.

What we are doing in reality is simply venting about where we think Bon Jovi should draw the line in terms of the musical compromises they make.

Personally I even consider songs like These Days strong rock songs, even 2 story town. From Crush onwards the songs are much less complex or at least it seems that way to my untrained ear. But stuff like '2 story town' in my book is still rock. But 'born to follow' no way.

Bon Jovi was always a Pop band, except in the 90s with certain songs.

but i disagree with you, bon jovi is bon jovi, its hard to classify them which is what makes them unique and so successful in their own right

I don't know how anyone could doubt KTF is a rock record. It's their heaviest record ever, and lots heavier than the stuff in the 80s. Just different. Yes, it was a new, modern sound at the times, but it was a rock sound!

Nowadays Bon Jovi are not a pop band... they are a rock band with pop elements... but thanks god even the watered down stuff is still far away from a real pop sound. When you read "pop" as in "popular" as in "commercial", than yes, they might sound more commercial now than in the 90s, but then again they always sounded commercial. No no no, they always were, and still are a rock band. Just not as heavy anymore, and pop elements appear here and there. But compared to Bryan Adams, who could still considered a rock singer (though maybe more pop nowadays), they are heavy metal!

You could argue that Bon Jovi was always a Pop band - if only b/c in the 1980's Hard Rock was popular. Their 4 80's releases are certainly Hard Rock records. Their sound shifted in the 90's but they were still a rock band, even if not by 1980's hard-rock conventions/standards.

Crush - i'm certainly aware of this albums pop overtones but to me, this is a rock record. Songs like 'Next 100 Years' 'Just Older' 'Captain Crash' + espec 'One Wild Night' to me, are rock songs. Just b/c it wasn't 1980's Hard Rock doesn't make it not rock - there are many different styles within the genre.

Since then... Bounce - i rather disapprove of this album. Composed of overproduced "hard" rock songs + mediocre pop ballads. I would consider HAND a rock record as their is a solid rock feel for the majority of the tracks. It's certainly not a Hard Rock record though - although perhaps their hardest rocking record of the decade (i'm sure people will disagree based on opinions i've seen of this record on this forum, but to me - this is the bands best album of the decade). Lost Highway - no rock tunes to speak of. The Circle... i don't know - not much. 'Bullet' is a misguided attempt at 'Hard Rock'. Other than that, you're mostly looking at pop-rock.
