Default should GH been released 1st

Would of it made a difference, i think so. Release that 1st with a 2 or 3 new tracks, one being a monster balled, the casuals would of brought it because of that and back catolouge. Crossroads was released before These Days and look at the success that had, it would of reignited interest in the band. Then release the circle 12 months down the line and i think it would have been better received. I think they truly ****ed up and got it wrong.

Opinions please

Greatest Hits are completely unnesseracy nowadays. People download their favourite songs online anyway and make their own compilations. No one bothers about Greatest Hits anymore.

The reason why Cross Road was so big was because of Always, at a time when Bon Jovi had been releasing at least 1 big hit every 3 years. Right now it'll be 10 years since Bon Jovi has released a big hit and when looking at the success of The Circle it'll have the same people who'll buy the album unless there'll be a really big hit on the album like It's My Life. Bon Jovi hasn't made a monster ballad in 15 years now, what makes you think they'll have one on the best off?

These Days became a succes because of it being a great album with many hits on it. If it'd have been because of Cross Road it'd have done way better in America. The Circle tanks because no one gives a **** about Bon Jovi anymore due to them aiming their music to the 15 year olds who no longer care about Jon as long as he doesn't make a hit song, and the 30 year olds who used to buy their album anyway lost interest once it became clear that the music the band makes nowadays is superficial. And most of the 15 year olds don't buy the album anyway, let alone a greatest hits album of a band that hasn't made a big hit in 10 years.

They tried gaining a new audience but forgot about their current audience and now both have left them. Had they paid more attention to what they already had (which in the end was a bigger fanbase than the one they created with It's My Life) then yes, maybe the band would still be in the same league as they were with These Days, but the times have changed and Greatest Hits albums are a dated concept to most people, as are Bon Jovi.

Salaam Aleikum,
Sebastiaan

I agree with Seb here (for once)

No-one bothers with GH anymore, and I don't think many will when BJ bring theirs out. Especially if it's from 94 onwards.

I also agree about the monster ballad. Even though, I like the ballads they've done this decade and just before, I can't see them doing one that will be a big hit. MAM was a very good song, but flopped big time!

I hope we're proven wrong, though.

Bon Jovi won't do a GH2. They'll do a "Very Best of...." or an "The Essential....." instead so they can flog all the hits that were on Crossroad again, probably with 2 new songs that haven't been released anywhere else. It wouldn't surprise me if they held back a couple of songs that coulda been used for the boxset for a greatest hits album as it's obvious they've reached the point were they can't write or perform like they used to.

The only reason a GH or best of whatever u want to call it should have been realised first is so BJ didnt rush the circle and could have worked on it a bit more and made it better.

They should release GH only if they have a monster single which is very doubtful ...otherwise I don't see it can do well on charts.

In a interview with David Bryan and Tico Torres, they said that they will release a GH album at the end of this (2010) year. It is going to be a 1995-2010 selection with some (2) new songs. They're also planning to release all of their videos on a DVD.

My opinion - Videos - great idea. GH 1995-2010 - pointless. Only one hit which can compete with the previous ones, one obscure US hit and some little known singles and all of the great song from those 15 years are 15 years old because they're from the These Days record. Furthermore - those TD tracks will never fit in a collection with those 2000-2010.
On the other hand - I wouldn't like the idea of releasing a GH 1984-2010. Honestly - speaking about a GH collection, you could replace In And Out Of Love with It's My Life on the Crossroad and you have all of the greatest hits they have ever done (take it with a grain of salt of course). Their single choices from 2000 were usually terrible. Any fan of music will laught when he would hear IML, Everyday, HaND and WWBTF in a row or on one cd. It'd be much better if they released best of album - that also the album tracks could be there. I think more people know Just Older that Say It Isn't So or Thank You For Loving Me and The Distance or Undivided are miles better that any single from Bounce etc. But I'm affraid that if this happens, we will get album tracks like Captain Crash and Compliated instead of those really great songs. They have a bunch of really great songs from this time period but mostly they weren't released as singles or the band/Jon does not like them (eg Any Other Day). So I'm really sceptical.

I agree that any collection album does not have any sense today and I can't imagine anyone who would buy such a collection apart from the diehards who want the two new songs. They can only hope that IML still attracts people after ten years.

I was thinking about this collection and came up with this tracklist. It is not a list of my most favourite songs. It is not a list that I think they will release. It is a list that I think could work - it contains their hits and well known songs, I wanted to add here some ballads and make it ballanced etc. I know there are some flaws and I could change some of the songs for others. Check it out (some explanation in the brackets):

01. Itīs My Life (that's clear)
02. Who Says You Canīt Go Home (their 2nd biggest hit)
03. Superman Tonight (best single from the last album)
04. (You Want To) Make a Memory (most successful single of LH record; the only decent ballad in last years)
05. NEW SONG
06. NEW SONG
07. Bounce (most significant song from this album)
08. These Days (the only song played live from this album on each tour from TD to LH)
09. Undivided (teh best song from Bounce )
10. Just Older (significant song from Crush, played regularly on tours)
11. Whole Lot Of Leavinī (they like this song, the songs carries some message)
12. Have A Nice Day (this one was successful in Europe, let's say their second biggest hit after IML)
13. Janie, Donīt Take Your Love To Town (there should be Midnight In Chesea if anything from DS but I think this one did better)
14. Hey God (TAALS was the most succesfull song from TD but this was also an single and it represents Bon Jovi a a rock band)
15. When We Were Beautiful (their most artistic song from last years)

So that's it. I don't know if there is a point to put there Jon's solo track but songs from DA did better than many singles from the last ten years. I'd put there OWN a a great rock track and to make all albums have their spot (except for TLFR).
What do you think about it. I'd love to hear arguments and not stuff like "this will not work fullstop"

Can you link us to this Dave/Tico interview?

And I see what you mean regarding song choice but I really doubt songs like Undivided and Just Older will make the cut, same with D.A. I'd assume they'd do singles only. Which they choose is another story. Making this a single disc is a tricky thing. North America, it makes sense but worldwide I think it's a bad move. In this country, I could see This ain't a love song, It's My Life, Thank you for loving me, Everyday, Misunderstood, Have a Nice Day, Who says you can't go home, Make a memory, Lost highway (?), We weren't born to follow, two new songs, and it depends on how well ST does. Part of me thinks that's why they keep putting this off. They WANT to capitalize on putting It's my life and Who says in the best of but need to wait for another big single to add more tracks, cuz they're pretty slim on those in this part of the world.
