I just saw this at the Bon Jovi Info HQ at www.bonjovi.com

Okay, I'm a little confused. There was a question about advanced copies of Bounce and you replied there are none being distibuted. But in the news section, about the MTV Japan contest, it says that people pre-ordered copies of the album. So what gives....what's the diff. between pre-ordered and advanced copies? And how do you pre-order the album? Thanks for clearing things up for me.

There's a difference between ordering copies of Bounce IN advance... versus a true advanced copies. You pre-order an album over the internet or at a store and you're essentially reserving a copy before it hits the stands. An ADVANCED COPY of the CD is one that would have been manufactured and distributed to folks in the industry and the media. Given the proliferation of MP3 problems, CD piracy around the world and lowlifes tending to put these items up on E-Bay, the practice is weaning.

I wonder what this really means... Will it mean bad news for the collectors and fans who up until now have been lucky enuff to lay their hands on advance copies of the guys' new albums? (And no, I'm not one of such fans...but I know of ppl who are.)

It was always this way, even 30 years ago when my father worked at Polygram. You for sure will still find Promos because there are always people who know someone from the record company, a radio station, a music magazine or whatever who get advanced CDs.

There's nothing to worry about, as long as albums and singles are played on the radio and music magazines are asked to write reviews there will be promo-CDs.

LOL @ Sambo-Chris, guess I better repeat my BSWJBJ answer here too... You didn't copy yours word for word but I'm a lazy git and can't be ar$ed to write a new reply. :P So here it goes.

Actually now that I think of it, I wouldn't be so sure about that... Cause I remember that before the new Red Hot Chili Peppers album came out, the record company -- or at least the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Finnish record company -- refused to give out advance copies for advance listening BEFORE the album was out. They actually made the DJs to go and listen to the album at the record company premises... Just like the "Bounce listening parties" we've read about that have taken place so far. There is probably only one radio station in Finland, RadioMafia (http://www.yle.fi/radiomafia), that does these advance listenings regularly for all kinds of bands, and as far as I know that was the first time they were not given advance copies at all. The new RHCP album was not sold in stores until its official Monday release date -- even though most new albums are usually on the shelves on Fridays already, despite their "official release dates" that usually take place on Mondays -- and it was only previewed track by track from that very Monday on, not a single day before.

So who knows, maybe the Bon Jovi Camp are tightening their grip as well? Time will tell, I guess...
