The band was doing shows from 1983 - 1990 that's seven years of live shows. Took a break until 1993 and toured CR and TD until 1996 so thats another three years. From 2000 they've been touring none stop apart from 2004 when they did a few promo shows, so thats another ten years. So as far as I can work out they've been doing proper tour shows about for 20 years.

2500/20 = 125, so an average of 125 shows a year over 20 years would make 2,500 shows.

You'd have to work it out by adding up the rough number of shows from over the eras:

BJ: 23 http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/BJ/
7800: 18 http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/7800F/
SWW: 206 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slippery_When_Wet_Tour
NJ: 232 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Jersey_Syndicate_Tour
KTF (and SWID tour extension): 78 + 94 = 172 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keep_the_Faith_Tour
CR: 62 http://www.bonjovi-archives.com/CR/
TD:130 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/These_Days_Tour
Crush:40 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crush_Tour
OWN:54 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_Wild_Night_Tour
Bounce:83 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bounce_Tour
HAND: 89 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Have_a_Nice_Day_Tour
LH: 113 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_Highway_Tour
TC: 129 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Circle_Tour

129 + 113 + 89 + 83 + 54 +40 + 130 + 62 + 172 + 232 + 206 + 18 + 23 = 1,351.

However you spin it there isn't a high enough average number of shows per year to get anywhere near 2,500. Even if you factor in 500 promo shows you're still not even at 2,000 shows. So I'd imagine this figure of 2,500 was a creation by Jovi or the press.

DISCLAIMER: Before anyone goes nitpicking figures I'm just using what was available in a rush, I think they give an accurate picture.

i think they count every live performance, every promo show etc, and in my opinion why should nt they? a small live appearence in a tv show demands many people nad preparation, planning etc.and its a live show before a small audience after all

i know bon jovi did alot of shows in th 1983-1986 era. lots of them are club dates(bj, 7800,KTF),charities functions, and bon jovi were opening acts for RATT,KISS,Judas,zz top, 38 special. and we do not know the cross road tour
and festivities

so thats about 2500 concerts if someone can tells the amount of shows that bon jovi did during 1983-1986 and i think the 38 special was 100 shows i can't be too sure

You are correct. Only a handful of the dates for the first album and 7800 F are cited on Bon Jovi Archives due to lack of available information and I believe the 38 Special opening slot dates for SWW are missing for the same reason. The KISS dates in 1984 are mostly there, though a few are missing/skipped.
