Default Just a few thoughts

Ok, yes I am really bored with BJ right now. (I Know it's not a good way to start on a board that is dedicated to that band)

I really loved Keep the Faith when I was younger and it used to be my favorite song together with Always. I've just listened to Keep the Faith and everything I've aways loved about that song seemed to be gone. The lyrics don't really flow, the words don't tell a story and the lyric "...everybody needs somebody to love.(mother, father)" makes me want to cringe and its all cliché. Plus the words seem to be put together by different people. Ok, at least the guitar, the drums and the bassline sound good to me.

I could never live without These Days especially in the wintertime., though.

I can't really listen to Crush, Bounce, HAND or LH because it does nothing to me, I even thought of throwing them away, but then i realized i own CD's that are even worse.

Maybe it's because of the lack of good songwriting, Jons annoying "I wrote so many good songs/I hate it when others make mistakes"(while his voice is shit many times).
Don't get me wrong, I still love Dry County, These Days, As My Guitar lies bleeding in my arms.... and I'm looking forward to the tour this summer
but what I don't understand is that I love the music and hate it at the same time....grrr

And one question: People always say that there is a lot of social criticism in
These Days. Is that really true? I mean besides TD and maybe Hey God(which rather describes subjective anger)

This has all been discussed before. Multiple times, in multiple threads

- Good songs vs Bad songs
- Jons cliché & repeated song writing
- Being board w/ Bon Jovi and needing a break.
- etc etc etc

To be honest, I'm exhausted with the topics. Sorry, I wish I could sympathize with you, but I'm burnt out with this type of chat.

I'm not just complaining or whining, it just came to mind again today.

I can relate a lot to what you're saying. To me, pre- and post-2000 Bon Jovi are two different bands. The former changed my life, the latter means very little, if anything, to me anymore.

On the subject of social critisism, I think Hey God and all I want is everything touch the topic in many lines. Hey God features characters struggling with making payments, dealing in a society surrounded with crime and growing up in bad circumstances. The "scenery" is very urban, very mid-90's America. Same with AIWIE; "With all the gangs, all the guns, whatcha gonna learn in school?", overdoses, runaway kids.
Other than those two songs I wouldn't say there's much social critisism in the songs. Maybe bits like "vagabond king in a styrofoam crown" here and there.

I guess you are right about Hey God but I'm only 25 and not too familiar with the mid 90's in America and I've never read Generation X so I can only assume about those times by what I heard from this grunge movement.

I thought the record is a mix of melancholy, personal doubts, a bit of frustration and a little bit of cheesy love, of course
